Slight chance of getting accepted?

Ever since I visited USC on a college trip I have been INLOVE with this school. I know it's a longshot but I'm curious if I have even the slightest chance of getting accepted...

Cum GPA of about 3.6//About 3.7 weighted.
Didn't begin taking AP until junior year b/c I didn't know anything about them
Passed AP Lang test with a 4.
Taking 2 AP courses and one Pre AP course ths year.

I recieved:
1830 on the SAT reasoning (Re-taking it but not sure if I'll do any better)
27 on the ACT

Terrible SAT II's (but unfortunately not re-taking):
Literature- 580
Mathematics Level 2- 640
U.S. History- 600

I helped to launch a communtiy service club at my school and have been president of it for the last two years. Over 100 hours of community service.

Spent spring break sophmore year on a mission trip in Mexico building churches and teaching children.

Ballet for 12 years.

Also, first in all my family to go to college! Exciting

Schools applying to:
UCSB
UCSC
Cal Poly SLO
UCSD
USC

(some are longshots and some a back-ups)

Lemme know whatcha think?!

Hey greenlash! You certainly aren’t a shoe-in for USC, it may be a bit of a reach, but then again I think you are being a bit hard on yourself when you consider your chances only very slight. According to CollegeBoard, 30% of 1st year students at USC had a GPA between 3.5 and 3.74. So obviously there are plenty of students who are accepted with that sort of GPA. The middle 50 % of first year students had an ACT score of 28-33. So while you are well below the 50th percentile, you still fall into an accepted range. And keep in mind you don’t have to send in SAT II scores. If they don’t help you, don’t send them in (I’m not sure if the Math level 2 would help you or not).

If you are able to portray yourself very positively in the activities summary (i.e. the community service club) and in the essay and short answers, I’d say you have a decent shot!

A slight boost in confidence, I must sayyy.
Thank you.

I’m just a bit angry that my college counselor had me send my sat II’s in before I even got my scores back. And now it’s too late, they’ve already been sent. : (

Here are the stats for this year’s freshman class: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/0910/FreshmanProfile2009.pdf

The good news is that your GPA is only slightly below the mid-point. The bad news you know, your SATs are below the 25th%-tile. I wouldn’t worry about the SATIIs, I think it will come down to how tough the rest of the applicant pool is and whether you’ve shown an up-trend in your grades. It’s going to be close. Good luck.
