Slightly above avg student..?

Applying for Fall 2014, can anyone tell me if I have a shot?!

GPA: ~95/100
All honors classes since sophomore year, only two APs! Both senior year :O (AP Calc BC and AP Chemistry)
- I applied for AP Bio and AP stat junior year but wasn't allowed to get in, my school is HUGE! I hope my guidance counselor can somehow convey that to colleges..

Senior Course load:
Honors Spanish 3
AP Calculus BC
Honors Government
Honors Physics
Honors English
AP Chemistry

SAT I: 2190
M: 770
CR: 710
W: 710
M+CR = 1480

SAT II: Taking in November. Math II and Chemistry. Should be able to get 700+ on both.

Extracurriculars:
500+ hours volunteering at daycare center
100+ hours volunteering at local temple
4 years of Freestyle Football
Played varsity soccer in freshman year, discontinued after injury
2 years in Parkour Club
Member of NHS (Arista)
ACE Mentor program (senior year) - Basically you're a part of a group and you learn more about Architecture, Construction, and Engineering.

Major: Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

Very weak application I know If anyone can chance me I'd really appreciate it! I want to know where I stand. Thanks in advance!

I posted this in the Stony Brook thread as well, but I please chance me for a couple other schools too

I am also not a citizen or a permanent resident! My father is a diplomat and currently working in the UN, so I won't be filing the FAFSA or anything, which is why I'm applying to schools where I think I can get some merit aid

Macaulay Honors at City College of NY
Stony Brook Honors College
Bucknell University
Texas A&M University
University of Texas at Austin
Penn State University
University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Fairleigh Dickinson University
University of Pennsylvania or Cornell (SUPER reaches)

Chance me and I'll chance back!!!

I’m not really sure about your other colleges, but UPenn and Cornell are reaches. It’s always good to still apply because you never know what might happen.

Thanks candid.
Anyone else?! Bumppppp

The fact that you didn’t take many AP classes will hurt your chances at Penn State and Cornell. Those are both high reaches due to your SAT scores too. A 2100 is great, but combined with your course load, they won’t really look into you very much. If you have your heart set on one of those two, you should try to contact admissions counselors and see your chances. What is your class rank? That will be indication of how competitive your school is as well. You should be fine for both Texas schools. I’m not really sure about the other ones listed though.

Keep us updated on what happens!

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569158-florida-state-university-chance-me.html</a></p>

Thanks Hattonkelly! Do you mean UPenn? I was hoping Penn state would be like a safety :open_mouth:
My school hasn’t released ranks yet but I know I’ll be in the top 6-7% at least. I might retake the sats and perhaps go up about 50-60 points and get a 2250 or so, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it because my transcript ruins my entire profile anyway :/

I think they must be talking about UPenn- you look good for Penn State!

Yes, Penn state is a safety, you’re way above the cross section bubble for 50/50. :)

If you’re not on F1 or J1, but A (for example), you may be consideredas if you were a permanent resident for admission and financial aid purpose. It depends on the school. Check out with each school to which you’re applying, as well as some other schools
In addition, look at LACs ranked 35-55 including in particular all outside of the MidAtlantic area to maximize odds of admission with merit aid. Schools like Dickinson, Franklin&Marshall, Grinnell, Hendrix, Macalester (Kofi Annan’s school, if that matters… which it could with your father’s job… as in, really help :p…) would be likely to be interested in you.
Check out Croft at Ole Miss! Totally your profile and guaranteed merit money.
You’re guaranteed a full tuition scholarship at UAlabama + entrance into Honors College.

I’ll assume you won’t be considered as an international applying for financial aid.
Macaulay Honors at City College of NY = low reach
Stony Brook Honors College = match
Bucknell University = match
Texas A&M University = safety
University of Texas at Austin = low reach (but because virtually all students are automatic admissions and academic admits, OOS admission is very very competitive)
Penn State University = safety (Honors College, I hope?)
University of Louisiana at Lafayette = safety (Honors College, I hope?)
Fairleigh Dickinson University = safety (Honors College)

You should apply to Auburn University, they have a great engineering program and I think your academics would be a closer match there. They are similar to A and M which is more of a match (unless you live in Texas and then it would be a safety)

@MYOS1631 Thank you so much for your insight! Do you think Alabama would give a full tuition scholarship to an international student? If they do then I’ll make sure to apply there! Unfortunately I’ll have to switch from my G1 visa to an F1, which makes matters harder but I’ll look into it more. Thank you once again, you really helped me out!

@checkers4 Thanks  I live in NY so I suppose it’s a match for me! I’ll try to look into Auburn and see if it is a good fit for me.

Thanks guys!

BUMPPPPPP anyone else?!

I don’t know much about all of your schools, but based on your stats, Penn State is a safe and the two ivies are reaches (obviously). But what helps you is your catch, I would really use the international student as an angle in your essays, because it makes you stand out. Use it to show what you could bring to their campus and really make your essays shine. If you’re looking for merit aid at good engineering schools, Michigan Tech, Kettering, Georgia Tech are all schools that my peers with engineering goals are applying to (and getting aid from). Good luck on your search!

Chance me if you can as well- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569669-ivy-leagues-others-what-my-chances.html#post16511300</a></p>

Yes, I was talking about UPenn! Sorry. You look fine for Penn State.
