I’m applying to Andover and Exeter, and I’m just slightly concerned about my reading score. Even though I got perfects on verbal and math, the “stark” difference between my reading score and the aforementioned math and verbal scores causes a bit of second-guessing for me.
Omg what even you have amazing test scores!! Andover and Exeter both have an average 93% SSAT acceptance rate, which means have of the students got lower than that. I think that’s what makes Andover and Exeter soecial is that they value your character more than just your brain. Focus on your other applications and extra curriculars, interview, and essay. I am also applying there and taking my ISEE in 12 days
Also how did you improve your verbal and reading scores
These scores are a non issue and you shouldn’t be concerned at ALL. You need to think deeply about and portray well the qualities you would bring to each school. Is there a particular activity for which you are dedicated – music, sport, volunteerism, etc? That’s what will set you apart from other applicants.
@MAandMEmom yes, I do math competitions (I qualified for AIME last year), I’m a competitive figure skater (qualified for NE regionals 3 years in a row), and I play violin in the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. Oops, I guess that’s 3 activities, but if I had to choose my most “defining” activity, it would probably be competitive math.
Hello, just wondering how did you managed to receive a 99 for verbal? I am struggling in only that particular subject is wondering if u can offer some help/advice
@jinghe2 Verbal this year wasn’t as hard as I expected it to be. I just took the test this morning and I can tell you that you’re going to have to study some SAT words. For my verbal prep I used The Princeton Review and http://www.99percentileprep.com because it had a list of 1200 common ssat words. Good luck!
You’ll be perfectly fine! As a current lower at PEA, I scored around a 97% on reading and a 98% in verbal, but an 89% in math. Even if one of your scores is lower than the others, I can also tell you that the school has definitely made a shift towards more deeply evaluation recommendations, overall grades, essays and interviews within the past few years; this doesn’t mean your SSAT scores don’t matter, but if you’re worried, they don’t matter as much as they used to. Good luck, and I hope to see you around on campus next year!
