Now, I know my SATs aren't the greatest and I just took the SATIIs today. But do i even have a shot at the Ivys? I figured some leadership positions might make up for it as well as good recommendations and essays.

I'm taking 3 APs currently and 6 next year.
My school weights very highly. but my unweighted average is close to 99 out of 100. and thats with all aps and honors.
[I have a 100 in Ap physics and a 99 in chemistry - most important to my major]

I've heard of some miracles at the ivys. Penn and Columbia are my dream schools and if it wasn't for need for financial aid, i would ED UPenn.

But, I do feel like i need one more match and maybe 1 more safe.

Umass was a very easy "shoe-in" school.
I'd consider my ACT "on track" for the ivy's so if i get that up a point, would i be okay?

BU would be considered a low match to me as I should be able to get in easily (lots of people from my school have went there with lower stats than me)

waddlelikeaducky i don't think the ivy's are far far reaches at all. They are essentially reaches for everyone because of their acceptance rates/selectivity but I think you do have a shot, your GPA and class rank seem fine. I think these guys are putting too much emphasis on your average SAT's, but your ACT score is nearly there.

I'd say don't retake SAT, just go for gold on the ACT and you have a chance.
Oh and write some killer essays

you're looking good. really nice grades, good ec's. your ACT score is already high, and you could bump it up even more on your retake. ivies are reach for everyone, but you should have a shot.

with your major, have you considered applying to the univ. of minnesota oos. their chemical engineering program is one of the best in the nation, and those grades and your future higher act just might get you some merit aid too.

I'm only allowed to apply to schools within 5 hours of me [Long Island, New York]

As for Leigh, if i was going to an expensive school, i'd have to fall in love with it, and for Leigh and Lafeyette I didn't like them. Too small and too rural for me :3

My goal is a city and huge :)

but thanks for your opinions. anyone know any schools that would be matches for me that are closer than minn?

You do realize that a 31 ACT is better than a 2050 SAT.. so why would you bother trying to do better on them? The only reason I can think of is that when you send in your SATII's.. they'll see your SAT. You're GPA is good, and you have a high class rank... But for engineering, numbers R E A L L Y matter..so i'd say those Ivies are definitely reaches, but you should still apply, because who knows? It doesn't look to me like you have a lot of "middle" schools on your list.. Like schools with acceptance rates higher than the Ivies, but still competitive...

raise your SAT or your ACT
if Penn's your dream school and you don't mind going into SEAS, I would apply to SEAS over CAS. RD acceptance rate for SEAS is about double that of the college

"I'm only allowed to apply to schools within 5 hours of me [Long Island, New York]"

5 hours by car or 5 hours by aircraft? :P

I don't know what your reasons are for keeping yourself in a 5 hour zone around your current location but the point im trying to make is how much of a difference does it make if you are 5 hours away by car or airplane its essentially the same "distance" in terms of time
