SLO vs. CPP Architecture

Which one’s better? Which one would you choose if you got into both?

Ha, ha

I was just in the same dilemma after being accepted to both. After visiting both campus and researching the programs I chose Cal Poly Pomona. I don’t care for campus life, I just want to be close to Arch firms in LA. I think that out of all other majors, they are actually quite similar for Arch, as they both are ridiculously competitive (less than 7% admission rate). This is a partial list of studios started by Cal Poly Pomona alumni

Then again if you like the small town feel you might want to go for SLO. Another thing that drove me here is that I’ll be paying about $8,000 less and getting exactly the same.

Oh, and the college owns and operates Richard Neutra’s home in West Los Angeles

Good luck dxcdivad!

SLO is the superior program by far. If your decision making process is solely based on academics, SLO is the arch school for you.

^By far? How so? Im just wondering.

Poly Arch,

As I’ve stated in other replies to your threads, Pomona is better solely on the fact that it draws better design professionals. Good design architects cannot get any work in far out places like SLO, so their faculty is technically focused as opposed to design oriented as can be seen by your list of architects that have taught at Pomona. Most of the faculty at Pomona also teaches at Sci-Arch UCLA and USC and have much current work to show for. The faculty at SLO are mainly older white male professional educators as opposed to practicing architects at the forefront of design trends. In addition, the Pomona faculty is more published with Judith Sheine’s multiple books on Rudolph Schindler, and Michael Fox’s book on Interactive Architecture. Bottom line, talented architects cannot survive away from big cities and SLO has old historic architecture while LA has cool mid century modern and currently modern architecture.
