slow reader

When you read a book, do you read the whole thing in one sitting or do you read like 50 pages at a time? It usually takes me about four days to read a big novel (400-500 pgs), and sometimes I feel like I'm going to slow. Anybody else have this problem?

Well if you are speaking pleasure reading of novels......who cares how fast you read?

It takes me a week to read Battle Cry for Freedom which was 760 pages with small fonts. :/ I don't think you're a slow reader. You're just trying to get the facts I guess. =] Depends on what type book you're reading too. =]

This may sound obvious, but the only way to increase reading speed is to continue reading.

Reading speed, of course, also depends on the material being read. I could read a 300 page novel in one day, yet I test the limits of my mental endurance in trying to read merely 80 pages of philosophy per day.

The rate at which one reads is also not good enough; one must also be able to retain the material in order to derive a diachronic interpretation/perspective from the text.
