Slow reading (a very serious problem)

This is a major problem when I do my critical reading pratices. I tend to read really slow since I was young so I could comprehend every single word.

When I read I subvocalise (pronounce the words to myself) either by moving my lips or by doing so in my head (I try not to when reading passages but I can't). When I try to use my finger to guide me to read faster, I can't understand what is said in the passage at all.

I also reread so often, that makes my reading even more slow.

I'm thinking maybe I should take a speed reading course. I really need some tips (dont tell me to pratice, I pratice a lot and this problem still persists). Thanks.

You can maybe try buying one or two speed reading books on Amazon. The two most popular seem to be Breakthrough Rapid Reading and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Speed Reading. I think that'll be cheaper than taking an actual course. I'm actually thinking of getting those books someday. Not because I read very slowly, but because I want to read faster.

I tried using a book to learn how to speed-read and it didn't do me much good. It just took way too much time for me to practice speed-reading. I'm sure if I had a long time to work on it I could achieve it, but my reading pace was about average, maybe a bit slower, so I didn't really need to learn to speed-read.

It might be better to take a newspaper article and skim it. Skim it, don't try to read fast.
