Hello,
I'm having trouble deciding which major to choose. My school offers a bachelors in both Communication Sciences and Disorders and Health Services Administration. Currently I need 6 more classes to finish my AA in either and continue onto UCF.
I know it comes down to what I feel I would enjoy the most, but I think they are both equal. I have worked as a Medical Assistant at a neurology office for five years, so I have patient experience and the health care business experience.
I think my problem is that I'm impatient. A HSA degree would end at a bachelors, but the SLP would be a Masters with a year of fellowship. I'm not in this for the money, I just feel like I need to hurry up and have a career.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I’m inclined to say SLP, but I’m biased as a linguistics major who’s into that kind of stuff, haha.

Which field do you see yourself in more when you’re out of school? That’s likely what the decision will come down to.

I’m an SLP,and I would caution you against being an slp if you are not both excellent academically and politically. A huge portion of my job is tact, patience, organization, ability to navigate bureaucracies without flipping, and rolling with random changes. I can think of very very few things that it has in common with health administration. Completely different skill sets! Be aware that it is difficult to get into a grad program…many bachelor’s level clinicians move to teaching because they can’t get into a program.

I love my job, but if you are not very enthusiastic, it’s the wrong profession.
