SLS question

I recently was admitted into SLS. If I got into SLS, does that mean my chances of getting into WP or getting an LOA are very good.

Yes and No . The only advantage sls will have is in any type of essay you submit to west point or congressional people. I wrote my wp and nominations essays about my sls experience.

The only reason why lots of sls kids get loas and ultimately appointments is because most are super qualified...which is why they got into sls in the first place.

Remember that getting into sls requires no nomination or medical evaluation. These are two things that can keep you out no matter how good your scores or ec's are.

Getting into SLS is definitley a huge step into getting in. It shows you are commited, have seen the lifestyle and still want to go. If you get into SLS, you aren't definitley going to get in, but if you can get into SLS you have a good shot at getting in. At least for USAFA, they told us that it was harder to get into their SLS than into the Academy, I think its probably the same for USMA.

soccer, you're right. We were told that it is more competitive to get into SLS than into WP. However, anyone reading this thread should note that if you do not get into SLS, it means very little. If you are interested in attending WP, keep up with the application process.

jq, you're right. The material for essays and interview discussions is tremendous.

Do you all think that the academies care which SLS you attend? Or do they all look as good as the other? Or does more look better? I was accepted to both USMA and USAFA and as of right now I only have funds to attend one. My first choice is USMA but I really don't want to let my USAFA MALO down as hes done alot and has been very helpful in getting me accepted to USAFA SS.

Also lets say I turn down USAFA SS and go to USMA and the Next year I don't get accepted to USMA for whatever reason, will USAFA then be like "well you turned us down for SS, yes your qualified but how do we not know you won't do it again" so they won't want to offer me admissions cause I would be taking up someone elses slot.

any thoughts?
,Justin

The Academies have scholarship opportunities for the Summer Seminars, I believe. You might want to check that out.

funds? what you mean? i think they cost like around $200ish? it costs that much to feed you during that time. cant afford transportation? take greyhound. and if you really cant afford it, talk to them about a fee waiver. mayne, scrilla shouldn't take you outta tha game.

also, as for SLS getting in? i really dont think it helps. its helps a little, but i didn't get in to SLS, got rejected on the first time, then got my appointment next year. sure, being a soldier helped. but dont get hung up over sls.

I may have focused to much on 'funds' in my post, airfare is mainly the biggest problem as far as that goes $400 to Colorado then $250 to USMA, not including $325 apiece for the seminars. But I'm going to talk to admissions officers about the benifits of attending them and if I should go to both, if I decide to go to both then I will be getting a part time job to cover for them so I'm not too worried about it but we'll see how it goes.

honestly, if money is a problem. talk to them about it. maybe ask your parents? and always remember greyhound. and shop around. try priceline, orbitz, tha drill. got a military ID? fly space A. lol.

When I went to SLS last year, there was a kind of forum one night during which we could ask current cadets questions. Only one of them (out of about 12) had attended SLS (or the past form of it; I think they changed it up a few years back), so those that don't get into SLS shouldn't worry.
tn48th: Don't forget about Boy's State! I know that my Admissions liason told me that Boy's State carries more weight in the admissions process and that it should be first priority.

8IzEnuf, what is flying "Space A"?
