Hey guys, i had some questions about the application for SLS. For those who have went before, what is on the application? Is it just grades or is there an essay or resume? Thanks

Just basic info and standardized test scores. It is harder to get into SLS than the Academy itself.

^ I call Bulllshiiit on that one.

I went to SLS and got my Appointment last month to USMA… SLS requirements are just that you open a file and give test scores and other basic information… it’s definitely not like applying to the Academy itself. 1000 people total get in to SLS, about 1200 to USMA Classes.
They certainly let more into SLS now than they did a few years back–I think the total for the 2 sessions combined back then used to be about 400 and our D’s Plebe class started out with about 1250 cadet candidates, so your chances are certainly better now to get into SLS than back then. Go for it–it can only help your admissions packet.

Thanks for the help. I got in!

Did you get a notice by mail or via email?

Bdoyle - Log into your candidate profile and if you have an SLS page and it says ‘SLS Offered (date)’ then you are in.

Thank you. On the candidate portal should you only put in what you have now? For sports should I put in 3 or 4 years even though next year will be my 4th.

i put in three years even though i still have to play my fourth.

also it does say that you have been offered on your candidate profile but you will also receive a packet in the mail. I received mine today! woo!

journey - actually the USMA SLS web page says 500 kids get into SLS (not 1000 - I think Navy invites 1000) - makes SLS competitive and likely bodes well for an eventual appointment, although SLS participants do need to take the CFA while there.
