Sls

Have any juniors applied to WP SLS? It said that I should hear this upcoming wed. or thur. I can't wait to find out!

i applied yesterday, i hope i get in

did u guys apply for sls to the other academies?

Has anyone that applied heard anything, I applied the first day the application was out and I have not heard anything...

I applied the 15th and haven't heard anything yet. I expect that the Christmas holiday time period slows things down a little bit...hopefully we will all find out next week!

Yes, I filled out my SLS Application the day they started accepting them but I heard from various sources that you will not actually hear if you made it in to SLS until early April or so. So we'll see. Also what were come things that you had to fill out on the SLS Application? Mine looked something like this.

PSAT = Reading-64, Math-60, Writing-60
ACT = English-27, Math-27, Science-20, Reading-32
Honors Courses, 3.9 GPA, 98 Cumulative Average
Most likely top 10 in My class of 450 or so
Whos Who among american Students
School Club officer
Student Council
School Band one year
JROTC Officer
School Quiz bowl team captain
Cross Country Team
Beta Club
Mu Alpha Theta
German Club Representative

Last year my son heard 2nd week of Feb. I believe it was right before the app deadline. Hang in there

I heard around Valentines day last year.

I applied really late (like a week before the deadline) and heard right away. Not sure that helps...

good luck

yea I also applied a few days before the deadline. I got accepted about a week later. I'm glad I did because sls was a pretty awesome experience. Just don't take it too seriously. Its not like the admissions people are standing right behind you. Don't act like an idiot though and you'll be all set. Also right after sls send your transcript, resume and sat scores to be put in loa contention.

Got a letter today saying that I was waitlisted and that I should hear back by May 16, 2006. *****.

My stats were- 210 PSAT (98th percentile)
3.6 GPA (I don't even remember if the app asked for that)
Rank: ~6 out of 36 (in an extremely competetive HS
Varsity Tennis since 9th Grade
Decent ECs (Model UN, Mock Trial, Orchestra, etc.)

If I didn't even get into SLS then why should I bother trying for admission to the academy? I pretty much gave them all that I have going for me (except my SAT scores, which I haven't taken yet).

yeah you're right Cuse, you should quit. I mean if theres a chance theyll say no then why even bother

Many applicants to SLS do not get in but ultimately receive appointments. I have even heard that it is more competitive than regular admissions. If you don't continue with the process you will guarantee not receiving an appointment.

Cuse -

The focus is primarily on academics for SLS. It's more balanced for admissions overall.

MOT is correct about the number of folks that get admitted to the school who didn't get into SLS.

Hang tough.

Hey,

SLS is sweet, but don't get bummed if you do not get in...

Basically, fill out the application as honestly, yet completely as possible. Do not leave anything out, because everything will be weighted by math for a final score. remember, there really is no way to 'interview', so the paper is all they go on. I found that the people that get in definetly do belong, those who do not may have been overlooked, or need some serious extra help. As I remember, a lot of people there were not in good shape. So, reg. admissions will take this into account. If you do not get in, go to Boys State or another academy program and keep interested.

If you do get, practice the CFA (by the books too, they take it real seriously up there). Although not crucial for an LOA, it is nice to take the freebie CFA and try to pass. i actually failed the basketball pass by a few feet, everything else was fine. I took it over, and passesd. But, I had the LOA before the 2nd CFA, so do not stress.

One thing to take seriously is the admissions interview. Some poeple got one with their regional commander/ rep. I didn't blow it off, but I should have been more prepared.

Overall, it is fun, so treat it that way. They would rather see someone socializing and getting along with everyone, having a good time, than someone who is silent, and counts the number of times they chew their food. that will come later....

I posted this in another thread also, but did anyone get some kind of notice that their application had been received? The Air Force Academy SS application sent an e-mail about 30 seconds after submission, thanking my daughter for applying.

see answer in other thread.

Cuse0507: Don't know what state you're from, but keep in mind that acceptances to SLS are allocated throughout the country like appointments - only fewer spots.

You could be waitlisted because of earlier applications that were accepted in your state.

Good luck.

I applied as soon as they started accepting the SLS applications like I've already stated, and I have yet to hear anything back from WP, not even a confirmation or waitlist notice like in cuse0507's case. And no I didn't apply to any other acaedmy SLS programs, Army all the way for me :).

Also I'm curious as to what everyone else wrote in the 'remarks' section of the application at the bottom, I wrote 2 brief paragraphs just mentioning a couple highlights of my HS EC's like varisty cross country, quiz bowl team captain and JROTC leadership, but now I'm starting to wish I had written more and added a whole lot more detail in that section. Should I be worried about this? Do you all think WP looks much into this section or are they mainly just looking at the psat scores and the EC's you checked off up top? If so is it big enough that I should call admissions and see if I could submit an udated revised personal statement to put in that section?

I'm also from Tennessee aspen (about 30min south of nashville to be exact) do you or anyone else have any experience with this area to know of how competitive it is, or Tennessee in general?

lol I know I'm probably worrying to much over this, oh well

Has anyone heard anything yet about SLS? I applied on 22 December, and I received an instant-reply e-mail telling me to wait about seven business days for a reply. No news yet here ...
