Congrats & Best of Luck to YOU!!!

Big mistake.

iâm in slu med scholars and am now a junior. I havenât been on college confidential in a while and randomly found this thread. Anyhow, I took just took the MCAT and I would first have to say that it is awesome to be in a program that takes your worries off the MCAT. You have to maintain a 3.5 (which is difficult btw, we started with ~100 students and how are down to ~30) but your score does not matter to get in! The average student still scores 28-30. SLUs average mcat score is a 32.5, GPA 3.7/3.7. These average stats are pretty high. For me, if I score lower than a 33, I will be staying at SLU. i have researched this school head to tail and have to tell you that it is a remarkable school that is underrated due to cost, size, and washu next door. usnews rankings mean nothing, especially since half of the rating goes to funding and ârandomâ doctor opinions. Results are biased. SLU has been doing pretty remarkable things with its young research center that opened 2 years ago. This year it housed the head team of the H1N1 vaccine which was recently all over the news. Finally, the matchlist that SLU offers is pretty great. Just check out the website and notice the specialties matched. Last year SLU had the highest scoring USMLE step 1 student in the country. One last thing, yes cost is an issue (even for me though I only say good things about this school) but I feel that SLU is a good choice for you/your child if they have aspirations to do clinical doctoral work. Any phd/research type stuff should be achieved at a different school because our research body is so young and poorly funded as compared to cheaper/larger state institutions and gargantuan schools like hopkins, harvard and washu.

Thank you for the update! And thank you for your valuable insights & thoughts on SLU Med.

I donât know what rankings youâre looking at l0vevik, but I would say that SLUâs medical school ranking is actually quite high on USWNRâs rankings and these rankings are in research: [St.
If SLUâs average mcat score is a 32.5, GPA 3.7 - thatâs also very stellar as well.

Whatâs great about the program youâre in is you do all the premed requisites AND take the MCAT so you always do have the option to apply out (vs. other programs that purposely lock you in), so coming from SLU, which is well respected as a undergraduate institution as well, should be no problem in case you decide to attend somewhere else for medical school: [St.
Glad to see you are doing well in the SLU program.

I was wondering if I have a chance or a possibility of getting into the SLU Med scholars programâŠI have an ACT score of 28âŠthe requirement is 30. Will they give me a chance by looking at other activities that I have or will they just not accept it because i didnt get a 30??
I have incredible extra cirricularâŠvolunteer hoursâŠdoctor shadowingâŠmany many clubs (vice president etc), sports, community outreach activities, a damn good college essay, ranked top 10 out of 530 studentsâŠgpa 3.9/4.0 and 4.8/5.0âŠall ap classesâŠpeer leaderâŠand a couple awards in school.

honestly, u need the 30 or they wont even look at your appâŠthis happened to a friend of mine last yearâŠid suggest u take the ACT again to try and get that 30

Did your daughter go to SLU after all? If yes, what has been her experience?

Thanks.

Has anyone been accepted to the SLU medical scholars program? If so, what are your stats? I just moved to Egypt because my parents decided to work in a school herre, and i really dont know where i can do any extracurriculars for college; so i am only relying on my grades. Freshman year i got all Aâs except for one B+, and this year I got all Aâs so far ( I am a sophomore). I am on the JV basketball team and i participated in the Egyptian revolution by helping the injured people. I also just started volunteering in a hospital and i only have like 10 hours volunteer work and i didnt do any extracirr last year ⊠Am i really that behind? What should I do? I always wanted to be a doctorrr⊠HELP PLEASEEE!

How much help is given to students in this program regarding extra curricular (medical) opportunities? Or are students expected to arrange these themselves?

how is UMKC compared to your other options?
