My D is accepted into both St. Louis university medical scholars program and Tulane's Honors program, she is aiming at becoming a MD in the future, so the Creative program at Tulane is also very appealing to her, she is facing a very tough choice, which one would be a better choice for her in terms of the program and the atmosphere? Any suggestions would be great.

Well, it looks like the SLU program is more of a guarantee, with 98% of those accepted as freshmen being accepted into SLU med. [Medical Scholars Program : Saint Louis University : SLU](http://www.slu.edu/x12904.xml) So from that point of view the SLU program is “safer”. Also the GPA for the SLU program is 3.5 as opposed to Tulane’s 3.6. Being a St. Louis native, I know SLU doesn’t have nearly as nice a campus and is not as high level a school as Tulane with regard to the overall academic record of the incoming students. It also has a lot more local students, if that matters to you. I guess in the end she would be trading off more of a guaranteed med school acceptance vs. a less guaranteed one, a great campus in very unique city vs. a more concrete one in a rather more ordinary city (at least from the point of view of most college students), and a school with a greater percentage of academically higher achieving students vs. one with fewer of these students. I point this out for a number of reasons, not the least of which is where would she rather be if she decides med school isn’t for her? It happens all the time.

St. Louis University is a fine school and she would get a good education there. If she likes the atmosphere there better or well enough that the near guaranteed acceptance to med school offsets however much more she might like Tulane, then SLU is the way to go. Otherwise she should probably pick Tulane, so she can see if she really wants med school. If she does, she will probably do well enough at Tulane to get into their med school or any number of others.

Thanks fallenchemist for your input.

I was accepted into this program but have questions about it. What is the interview process like in the sophomore year? Do they look at GPA and extra curricular activities? Are medical EC activities arranged for the med scholars or do you have to find these opportunities on your own?

maigret - You are far better off asking this on the SLU threads. Most of us here will only know what we see online, most likely.
