My DS is a high school senior who applied for the SLU Presidential Scholarship, so I’m starting a thread on that topic for this year’s applicants/parents. So far, DS has been awarded the Vice Presidential Scholarship, but has not heard anything re: an interview for Presidential.
In reviewing past threads here, it appears that phone calls/emails re: Presidential Scholarship interviews may start as early as this week. The SLU website indicates that candidates will be notified by “mid-January.” It’s possible that calls are made in alphabetical order and by region, but that’s only based on what I’ve read on other threads.
For those who are willing to share information from this year or prior years, please post here. I’m especially interested in when calls to interview for the Presidential are going out and any stats for prior years’ recipients of the scholarship. TIA and good luck to all!
In years past, it looks like the calls and emails came out on this coming Thursday. Last week, I got a letter from SLU saying that ‘due to further review of my application and the generosity of the alumni,’ I had received an increase in my Vice Presidential scholarship to $22,000 a year from the previous $20,000 a year. Hopefully I get a chance at the Presidential, as it’s the only way I’d even be able to consider attending the school.

My daughter got the same letter and increase to scholarship. My gut feeling is that means she will NOT get an invite for the Pres Scholarship weekend. Sad but we know how competitive it is. Good luck to all!

My DS received the same letter, with the same $2k increase to the VP scholarship. @3monkeys, I wondered the same thing: Does this mean the Presidential Scholarship is off the table? Our DS is in the same boat with @visibleman00 in that he could only attend SLU with the Presidential. He has other options already, but is definitely interested in SLU.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in the $2K increase relative to the Presidential Scholarship. D received the same letter, and since they specific that the increase was for the VP Scholarship (one of their standard Freshmen awards), I think it is exactly what they say it is.
I just got a call as well! I started with the VP scholarship, got the increase letter, and then the phone call today. Although from doing research it seems like 500 people are invited when only 20 win… odd to invite so many when there are so little spots.
Same here. Got the VP’s increase to 22k, and just got the call inviting me to an interview. It is strange that they invite 500 of us and only give it to 20.
@jshmfamily I have a last name that starts with V and I received the call yesterday around 4:00. Emails should be coming out today with a packet next week. Good luck!
I think they’re doing it by area, not by last name. My admissions rep told me yesterday not to say anything to people from my school because “a lot of people applied from that area and I haven’t called everyone yet.”
DS apparently got a call yesterday from SLU, but has been playing phone tag with his admissions counselor so I’m not sure if he is in the running. He checked his email late this afternoon, but has not seen anything recent from SLU. Did anyone else get an email, or was it just a phone call?
We are in the Kansas City area. Our last name falls in the middle of the alphabet. I think the original message was left for him late yesterday afternoon, if that helps anyone. Good luck to all!
Hi! I was recently invited for the presidential scholarship and I also received the 2k scholarship increase. It looks like they call and notify you if you have been selected for an interview by the region you are in ( i am from KY). The interviews are the weekend of February 15th, good luck!
