Has anyone from California or anywhere on the West Coast been notified?
VP increase, check! Presidential invite for February 22-24. The other weekend is February 15-17. Looks like a well-organized fun weekend, similar to Baylor’s I2E, and Track Programs
Anyone have any idea how many students were invited and how many scholarships are available?
They said about 500 students; it’s a good experience if you have nothing else to do. I forgot how many awarded though. Is it like 30?
Thanks!
@ppst There are TWO scholarship weekends, or just one?! DS has been invited for Feb 15-17 and we are moving heaven and earth to figure out how to make it happen, but we have multiple, significant conflicts on Feb 16. I don’t want DS driving to St. Louis by himself and, frankly, I’m not sure his car would make it. I wonder if it’s possible to move his visit to that other weekend, assuming there are really two. Could you please confirm that?
You’re right there are 2. Talk to his admissions counselor to see if he could reschedule. I think it’s worth it, especially if registration deadline is Monday, the 22nd. @GoAskDad
Thank you so much @ppst! I’ll ask DS to email his admissions counselor today. This solves about 15 problems and I really appreciate you posting.
Son has 2K VP scholarship increase. Received a phone call for Presidential in afternoon and an email later same day evening. Scheduled for 22-24 weekend and it will be an exciting trip and UMKC direct med interview right after this.
Same, we may see you at both places, @PPofEngDr!! Where else is he applying?
Can anyone share their experience for the Presidential Scholarship this week-end?
@ragarwa I drove up with my parents on Thursday for the overnight stay, the entirety of which was very welcoming. My only complaint about the night was that there were not enough presidential scholars available to host the students, so many students (including myself) were assigned ‘Billiken Buddies’ who were essentially student ambassadors that we stayed with. I also did not get to stay in the Honors Learning Community dorms (Spring Hall) because of this. Friday was very enjoyable, as it felt very much like a regular campus visit day to simply see the school before business began. Friday night was the Presidential Welcome, where you mingled with current scholars, alumni, professors, and other candidates. The reception is held in Cook Hall and felt very cramped due to the amount of people in the building. Saturday was the interview day, which felt like a formality at that point. You interview with 3 people twice, typically a panel of a current scholar, a professor, and an alum. Overall, the weekend was enjoyable and the interviews felt like a simple conversation.
Has anyone else received a financial aid package? They were supposed to have arrived a week ago, but there’s nothing in my portal and I didn’t get anything in the mail… i don’t know if they’re waiting to announce Presidential Scholars before releasing the candidate’s package…
My daughter received hers last week. She had her merit award increased by $8000!!
Did it come in the mail?\
It came via email, then mail, then her admission advisor called
Any notification for the presidential scholarship?
nope- I heard we weren’t supposed to find out until March 16
wow. that’s a ways away. anxiety is building up!! slu is my first choice
Hi all,
I got a call today from my admissions counselor letting me know that I am one of the recipients, and I was invited to the Honors College. It was a week earlier than they said, and I am making a trip out of the country to Montreal to visit McGill next weekend, but considering they give me $0 and SLU gives me a full ride, I should be at SLU next fall. McGill was/is my number one, but SLU is a close second for me and the offer is too good to pass up. I’m still going to Montreal as it is all paid for, but now the pressure is all off and I’ll enjoy the time up there.
I do have one question about the scholarship. Does it cover housing as well as tuition? For some reason I can’t find that out on Google and I don’t remember being told one way or another.
Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!!! I’m beyond excited to go to SLU next year; the excitement is still sinking in.
