I would also disagree that non residents shouldn't apply to Cal schools
I know lots of left coast students who are attending schools like UCLA and Cal poly.
Not saying he needs to apply to left coast only that there are choices besides attending regional schools</p>
<p>emerald - Since S never did apply to any UCs, obviously no first-hand knowledge of how easy/difficult it is for non-residents to get in. Just word-of-mouth from Cal friends, which may not be reliable. However, it is a v small percentage and maybe that discourages others, as it did us.</p>
<p>In our case, S did not want a large school, another factor severely reducing the left coast options.</p>
<p>Obviously, there are not "zero" opportunities on West Coast for right coast kids, but there are really very few in comparison to #s in the East. </p>
<p>And please, non-"coasters", don't come after us for leaving out the whole middle. We know you're there. In fact, S visited to and applied to (and will probably end up at) one in the middle.</p>
