Small envelope from U of K, oh no!

Today we got a small thin envelope from U of Kentucky addressed to my son. He applied a few weeks ago. My heart sank when I handed it to him. He didn't want to open it. "What do you suppose I did wrong? Was I denied?" he asked me. He opened it and it was a letter informing him that he started an application at U of K's website and didn't finish it. (That's true. He started there but then decided to submit via the common application instead.) The letter then said that if you submitted your application via the common app to disregard the letter. Haha, boy we were so scared he was denied! Don't scare us like that!

Good luck to you. We heard back shortly after the supporting materials were submitted by our high school. We were common app also. Had we known at the time that this would be the only common app school to which D would apply, we would have gone the UK app route. It all worked out in the end, though.

@neonpinklime, too funny!

We had a similar experience. I was pretty sure the thin envelope was not a rejection letter, but I told my daughter it probably was. She was a little upset to read the first line which was something like “I hope you find…”. Then she gave me grief for teasing her, because it turned out to be a letter describing the acoUstiKats music group. :)

UK sends MANY thin envelopes from the Office of Undergraduate Admission and University Registrar. Some are Holiday wishes. We got the "hope your semester is off to a good start, let me tell you about scholarships. Others wish that you are having a successful fall semester and keep you updated on University happenings. My favorite was the one with the 10 steps to becoming a Wildcat insert that reminded us of see blue VIP and was candid about our options and why we should choose UK. That does not include the small envelopes from Student Financial Aid, the emails, some with little video inserts that were actually fun to watch.

I must say, however, that they seem to time them well. Daughter does feel like she is kept informed and that they actually care if she attends there. I am so glad to see someone else actually on the UK thread, as most people interested in UK do not seem to be big CC users.

@ILfather that’s a good one. Sounds like something we’d do at my house. @Napermom just like you posted, we received a seasons greetings one. Hoping for the big fat one soon :D

My daughter received her acceptance on Thursday. Hoping she gets a chance to interview for the Singletary scholarship. Does anyone know if my daughter needs to get her Wildcat id to be considered for the Singletary scholarship or the Honors College? Good luck to your son, @neonpinkline! And congratulations to your daughter, @NaperMom!

Reminds of me of the time a college (don’t remember which one) sent out a bunch of fat envelopes to students and they weren’t acceptances. Rather, they were filled with information on how to apply to other campuses as they had been rejected from the main campus.

Wow, @Rating, that’s awful. I can’t imagine a college doing that to applicants.

My son made it! Got the official BIG wildcat letter today. Hope he gets some meaningful financial aid because being OOS, he’s going to need it.

Congratualtions on the acceptances ILfather and neonpinklime. I assume that they wait until NMFs are announced before they decide on Presidential Scholarships, as those who are NMF already have a better deal. My D does not have stats consistent with last years’ Singletary winners, so we do not anticipate being asked to interview for that.

Neonpinklime, if your S has not already applied for housing, he should do that ASAP. It does not cost anything to sign up. If you change your mind about going to UK, you just let them know. Very student friendly policy.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll tell him. :D
