I got accepted ED and will be going in the fall. I just have a few questions that I can’t find the answers to anywhere else.
- How would you prepare to have roommates if you're an early sleeper/ early riser?
- Do they offer a great variety of healthy food choices in the dining hall?
- (This ones kind of silly) In the communal bathrooms, are the showers inside stalls or are they only guarded by a curtain?
- Some of the QU students that I've talked to mentioned that the dorms never get cold, even in the winter. Is this true?
- What are some of the things that you do at orientation?
Thanks!
Hi! I think I can help I’m a current student at QU!
- There is a survey that is sent out over the summer before Freshman year that asks all about your lifestyle habits, including when you like to get up and go to sleep, so they try to match you with similar people. In my experience, I found my freshman roommates were respectful of each others habits, if one was up early they tried to be quiet while getting ready.
- There are lots of different choices in the cafe that change every day, but there is a big salad bar in the center that is there everyday. The veggies and choices in it are usually very fresh and have many options of things to put in a salad or a wrap, etc. The kitchen which serves different hot meals each day almost always has a vegetable option too. There are also gluten free choices. There is an omelet station in the mornings that makes fresh omelets with whatever ingredients you ask to put in yours, they can make them with just egg whites too!
- Not a silly question! Bathrooms are something you use every day! The showers have double curtains and each is separated by stall walls, there is a curtain that first blocks off a changing area that stays dry to keep your clothes, then there is a second curtain that leads to the shower stall.
- I have never been in a cold dorm! They are extremely well heated, we usually kept the window cracked a little to let some fresh air in, in the winter, and it was never too cold.
- Orientation was a lot of fun. We were put into groups of around 10 students so we got to know at least a few people a little more personally. It consisted of a lot of games and ice breakers, different discussions to address students fears, and some business stuff to get ready for the semester (placement tests, learning how to register for classes, ect). They have different activities in the evening too, such as comedians, psychics, live music.. Nothing to be nervous about!
Hope this helps ! Good luck
Hi @Carlybriem Congratulations on your acceptance to Quinnipiac! I just wanted to chime in as well, as a Quinnipiac alumnus and a staff member I’ve got lots of experience to help you through this process
- How would you prepare to have roommates if you're an early sleeper/ early riser?
We try to match people based off of similar lifestyles and personalities, it's important to fill out the housing questionnaire truthfully and not aimed at what you would like in a roommate. You do also talk the first few nights between your roommates and your RA to create a roommate contract together. If it doesn't work out you can change rooms after 2 weeks into freshman year.
- Do they offer a great variety of healthy food choices in the dining hall?
They really do try their best with changing things up, removing unpopular stations, and addressing the needs of the students. It'll never be home cooking though :)
- (This ones kind of silly) In the communal bathrooms, are the showers inside stalls or are they only guarded by a curtain?
@ElizabethDana18 answered this nicely, it's two curtains in the Ledges and Commons, Mountainview and the Suites have slightly different configurations which are hard to explain but still offer a privacy. If this is a concern please contact me directly (email listed below) and we can arrange to show you these settings on campus or discuss any questions you may have with them.
- Some of the QU students that I've talked to mentioned that the dorms never get cold, even in the winter. Is this true?
Absolutely true...it's nice and toasty during the winter....we had to keep a window cracked most of the time.
- What are some of the things that you do at orientation?
@ElizabethDana18 answered this better than I could, it's been a while since I've been at orientation.
Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns…we’re here to help…and again welcome to our community!
