They’ve started a program and have pre-accreditation status, but it’s not a guarantee that they will become accredited. For any school that I said doesn’t have nursing, it’s that they didn’t have any Registered Nursing majors in 2023, nor did they have it listed as an option for their 2023 grads. (College Navigator/IPEDS shows whether a degree is offered but had 0 majors in it that year.) But in the future, I agree it’s likely that Elon will have one. Whether people want a new program or not is a different question.
What does she consider a small school numbers wise? Does she want direct admit nursing?
My D21 applied to Udel; Miami of Ohio, Clemson, St Louis University; Bama (which wasn’t direct admit); UMD, and Wisconsin. The first 3 were about 18k undergrads and only Clemson had big time football. St. Louis about 6-7k and no football but rah rah basketball. And of course the last three big time football and much larger >30K.
Of course 2 months into her freshman year at Miami of Ohio she decided nursing was not for her……lol
Elon does not have a Big School RahRah feel. Poor suggestion if you are looking for that. It’s a mid-size school with mid-size athletic programs with mid-size at best crowds. It’s a good school, but definitely not a big rah rah sports school.
In NC Appalachian State has a very popular football program, super fun atmosphere. Good nursing school. It’s a small big school. Not a huge school like Michigan, but not a small or mid-size school. It’s like 20,000 undergrads.
East Carolina has a good health sciences all around and is a traditionally big supporter of football. I don’t think their teams have been that great in recent years, but in the past they were right up there. They have active alumni who will do a lot of tailgating. It’s not a small school, either, though. About 27.000.
You might look at Vanderbilt (they have football, but they are not very good – better at basketball). About 7500. They are SEC.
Maybe Baylor (Christian, about 15000 undergrads, not great football, better at basketball).
Most D1 schools do not have “game day Saturdays” with abundant tailgating, greek life parties, large crowds, etc. There are six schools in "Power 5"football conferences (SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, Pac12) that have less than 10,000 undergraduate students. The true “rah-rah” football spirit is limited to the “Power 5”.They are: Duke, Wake Forest, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Stanford. Notre Dame is independent for football but certainly belongs in this group of smaller schools with big time football.
SMU will be joining the ACC next year and has a good “game day” culture. TCU has more than 10,000 undergrads but is still relatively small by Power 5 standards.
JMU , Clemson, UVA, Virginia Tech, etc. are all great schools with plenty of rah rah spirit, tailgating , etc. but bigger than what the OP is looking for.
As I wrote above, the Tulane Head football Coach,Willie Fritz, has been poached by another university; Willie Fritz announced today that he will be leaving Tulane to become the Head Football Coach at the University of Houston.
