Small Urban Mid Atlantic schools for a low stats kid, who would benefit from some LD support

Barbalot, Hood and Stevenson are definitely on our list!

I feel as though all of a sudden I am hearing about LaSalle everywhere. I don’t think I heard of it once before last week, and suddenly it’s come up through my own search, here in this thread, and yesterday I had an Uber driver who told me all about his daughter’s school, which turned out to be LaSalle. Maybe that’s a sign.

We found my daughter’s school ‘through a sign’! We had just moved to the state and I heard about the school because I looked up which schools in the state had chapters of my sorority. Only 3, and this was one. About a year later, two boys from her school committed to play lacrosse there. Then I was reading an article in the WSJ about Newman Center dorms on school campuses and the private/public nature of the dorms (and how wonderful these dorms are), and this school was featured. Huh, what a coincidence that I’d never heard of this school and now it’s come up 3 times.

The summer between jr and sr year, when we were well into the search and recruiting, I read that this school was adding women’s lacrosse on the lacrosse website. My daughter filled out the questionnaire that day and I swear the coach responded within half an hour. Fate.

You might also want to look at Iona College CAP program (if AD/HD is the circumstance) or Adelphi University. They have wonderful LD programs.

@TDMom2 Hey! I know Adelphi is about 4 & 1/2 hours away but we do have really good programs for students with learning disabilities. Here are links to the websites if you want more information!

For learning disabilities or ADHD
http://learning-resource.adelphi.edu/

For Autism Spectrum Disorder, a nonverbal learning disability, or problems with socialization
http://bridges.adelphi.edu/

They’re two different programs so definitely read about each & see if one of them is what you’re looking for. Hope this helped.

I agree that St. Joes would be more intense academically. And we visited LaSalle and were very uncomfortable with the surrounding area but that is a personal thing (but my S did go to college in the Bronx, NY and we were comfortable with that as well as with the area around St. Joes and Drexel).

If you come to NY, I’d look at Hofstra in addition to Adelphi and Iona.

If you are looking for a structured LD program, I found this list online.http://www.ldadvisory.com/colleges_fee_for_service/

Definitely check out McDaniel.
