On a scale of 1-10; 1 being that people thought you were a 'slow' child, 5 being the average kid, and 10 that they thought you were a child prodigy, how intelligent did others think you were when you were a child (under 10 years old)?

Personally I'd rate myself 6; I'm sure people thought I wasn't so smart due to me being unable to do any task nicely and being very un-persistant, but I kind of had this illusion/air of confidence that I was so they fell for the trick that there was something special about me.

I think it was mostly because I knew a LOT more about pop culture (though maybe not with the innuendo) than most people at that age did. Like I knew what Blazing Saddles was, Citizen Kane (one of my drawings in like 3rd grade about the Winter Olympics was a sled in the shape of a rose, because I didn’t know what a bud was). Oh, and I knew what actual screamo was.

Honestly? I’d probably give myself around a 6-7 (according to my own opinion, that is). If anyone who knew me back then would give me anything different, that’s entirely their call…

7 or 8. I’m not a child prodigy, but I definitely was a nerdy little kid. I read the hobbit when I was four, and in fifth grade, I made it two thirds through Jane Goodall’s 700 page monster thesis. I devoured knowledge. People thought I was so nerdy smart. In reality, I would give myself a 5 or a 6. I’m not that smart.

Very close to a 10. Now I consider myself like an 8-8.5. 80% of the lost ability is definitely my memory. It used to be near perfect, now there is this strange concept of studying and taking notes that I have to do. kinda depressing

I actually failed the first grade and my teacher had me tested for learning disorders and stuff. She thought that I wasn’t smart enough to learn how to read or write. My parents didn’t believe her so they put me in a different school so that I could continue onto second grade.

In second grade, I was tested for gifted and talented.

In third grade, I scored genius level on some tests…

So it really went from 1-10.

Now… I’d give myself a 5 or 6. I’m not terribly smart, but I’m really not dumb either.

I was considered average when I was young and thus I was put into average classes etc while the “smart” kids went on to “advanced” classes. Turns out that my IQ qualifies me for MENSA membership, although I’d never join. Most of these so-called smart kids get average SAT scores and can’t perform in AP classes.

All this crap in school about “gifted and talented” kids is well… a load of crap.

I think maybe a 6 or 7. I wasn’t in “challenge” (my elementary school’s gifted program), but I did do pretty well in school. I started honors when I got to middle school.

I thought this was about my beloved Smarter Child. :(

Uhhh as a ittle kid, probably a 6.

1st grade, advanced reading class.
In 2nd grade, my teacher thought I had an extreme shyness problem and made me go to a counselor every week, so no advanced classes for me.
Then in 3rd grade I was tested for “Challenge” and got in.

No Mensa, my SAT score in 7th grade was in the 50% of all 7th graders (Duke TIP). Normal. Blah

I don’t know, maybe 8 or 9. I was (am) quite a history buff. People have told me from when I was about four that I would be a history professor (but I don’t think so).

That is my exact opinion. In sixth grade, I spent the first semester in regular classes and the second semester in gifted and talented… and I actually learned way more and was challenged more in my regular classes than my gt. GT is stupid and gives kids a superiority complex.

I was held back and put into a class of nine other kids who…“needed more nurturing.”

It helped me, I think, because I’m now more knowledgeable than I would of been without it. Though, it’s more of a personal thing for me because most of the kids who were in this program are now C average students.

So in other words, I was viewed as pretty stupid.

Haha I /personally/ consider myself a 5 or a 6–just a little above average. However I’ve received a ridiculous amount of “oh my goodness, you’re a genius!”-type comments from various people. Who knows! (:
