Smart slacker kid not accepted thread

Ahh, I haven’t anything to add, just wanted to post so a little red star pops up next to this thread so I can pull it up from time to time just for ****s and giggles. :)

I have never complained about merit money/need money to those who despite hard circumstances have achieved great accomplishment. But the schools themselves are concerned by the fact that they are getting fewer and fewer of the high middle income students who are being actively recruited by the States. What is even more astonishing to me is that States are actively recruiting OOS kids with high stats who can manage the instate rates to boost revenue.

I find this one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever seen on CC.

Since when has it been ‘girly’ to learn facts, take notes and maybe outline a chapter?

Shouldnt we stop feeding the ■■■■■?

jym, both articles are from 2009, but then, I’m good at math.

Did each of the schools share this little gem with you? I doubt that they are too concerned, since they have acceptance rates in the single and low double digits.

Acceptance rates and attendance rates are very very different things.

Let. me.say.this.slower.Your.post#182.contained.a.link.to.an.article.from.2001. Go. check. your.own.posts.please. Your.math.may.be. ok. but you might want to check your vision and hearing.

9 years old? Most of her ideas on gender are from the 19th century! That’s her most current stuff. Gee. Give her a break. You people are sooo harsh. I think debrockman has a perfect right to blame everybody but her son for his performance. Heck, without her excuses, who knows where he’d be now. So…lay off debrockman and her genius Mother Teresa-esque family. I , for one , am constantly amazed at what comes off her keyboard.

Oh, yeah. Girls really do have cooties, just like she says. Boys rule and girls drool!

that reminds me of a t-shirt my youngest used to have from UNC, the greatest women’s soccer program of all time. It had a picture of Mia Hamm kicking the ball and on the back it said, “Remember when “you play like a girl” used to be an insult?”

I loved that shirt. I’m a little misty eyed since this D is bigger than I am now and used to be so small.

Post 205 mixes up two completely different realms.

Again, public merit money is completely unavailable to in-state students in certain states, while available (esp. to in-staters) in other states. Merit money is generously available to the middle class (mid, upper, and lower) at many private U’s, but for a needy student, strictly merit money, should he/she achieve that, is rarely enough for the COA at pricey non-Ivy private coed U’s, and even less so at coed LAC’s. To attract capably needy students, the Ivies generously cover most of the COA to such students who are admitted.

The OOS public U student is a different phenomenon, centered on funds for those public U’s, many of which are at-risk or have already dwindled.

^^^ Quit being logical, epiphany. That isn’t appropriate in this thread :)

Based on receipts from the time , it appears at nightclubs , package stores, and the back-seat of a Gremlin that smelled more than vaguely of incense.

brilliant idea, poetgrl, but thats two logical posts in a row (if you dont count my interwined commentary which clearly doesnt qualify as logical). Cut that out.

Eso— dear eso… are you still out there anywhere??
