And why in the world would they have Debra Messing’s character be planning to adopt a child with one man while she is about to embark on a fling with another? I know people make mistakes in real life, but it doesn’t seem plausible that the kind of woman who is contemplating such a serious life choice as adoption (at her age, with her career, with a teenage son!) would also be so undisciplined as to start a fling. Am I hopelessly naive?

Unwatchable. Such bad writing and story lines. It’s “All my children…the musical”. I wounder if anyone would be watching this if not for our MT interests? Because it is one of “my wife’s show” I have to watch it. As a married couple there are “my shows” , “her shows” and “our shows”.

My BFA, MT daughter does not watch the show. I think my wife is punishing me because one of “my shows” is football.

Still trying to figure out whether I will continue watching this…definitely having issues with the writing and cliche stuff as mentioned above…

I am waiting to see Thorston Kaye arrive (speaking of All My Children), before I decide…

…I still don’t see why all the reviews were so excited about this show…

Amen Rodney^^^^^ Amen

^^^^^^^^^agree!
Watched the last two episodes the other night only because I had programmed my DVR for the season when it started so there they were, waiting for me. I honestly still don’t get it! Who in their right mind could find Katherine McPhee’s performance watchable? Sexy? good God no. a dancer? In her dreams. The Adele number was painful to watch. The storylines are just ridiculous. Debra Messing’s character kissing the boyfriend right outside her apartment? Really? How stupid would she have to be? And as an adoptive mother I find that whole storyline ridiculous anyway. I do love Christian Borle though. So talented! And I loved Thorsten Kaye on AMC so maybe I’ll still have to watch. Save me from myself. Please.

It’s official. I need someone to cut me down from the ceiling fan…Had to watch another episode of SMASH*

Agree with all the critiques – I still find myself watching it every week though!

Agree completely! But my MT daughter has zero interest.

The “mother” scenes in this episode made me cry. I must miss my son more than I thought.

How much you wanna bet that Julia got pregnant from her affair with Michael? Maybe she is looking to adopt because she is unable to conceive, so she is not using BC…

^^^ I’m thinking the same thing

I think this is the most entertaining show on television. I can’t wait until Monday nights.

renewed for a second season!

Oh no^^^^^. I will be looking for a taxi to jump out in front of!!!

You’re not alone…my husband has gotten dragged into watching this with me also. Neither of us is LOVING the show, but are somehow hooked just to see how it all works out in the end. I have so many issues (most already mentioned by previous posters) with the characters/plot, I can’t believe we’re still watching it!! Just love the singing/dancing part, I guess.

Those Gummer kids sure didn’t fall too far from the tree.

I haven’t watched in a few weeks but it is tivo’d so I’ll get to it eventually. I just read that there will be new writers for next season, that might help.

I did not get the point of having the daughter of Angelica Huston’s character on the show except to showcase Meryl Streep’s daughter (love MS btw). I thought she was ok, but acting wise…i wasn’t really impressed. This show is getting so soap opera-y. Wonder if they are going to bring in a real star to replace Ivy or a made up one. Also was disappointed Brian D’Arcy James did not sing like I thought he would. I got all excited when he started but definitely did not showcase his amazing talent.

I think it could help A LOT!! So far the writing and Ms. McPhee are my biggest problems with the show.

We’re still a couple episodes behind (just finished the Bernadette Peters one), but I started from the beginning and re-watched the entire series with D while she was home for Spring Break. I hadn’t talked to her in advance about it at all (she’d heard of it as she’s met a few people in it), but she spontaneously said EVERYTHING we’ve talked about here – including “how old is that kid supposed to be” in the scene about “his sister” in China. Her biggest laugh was when Karen started to sing in the recording studio and the technician immediately jerked his up like she was the most amazing singer he’d ever heard. ;-D Still, I think D is hooked.

I have lots of problems with the show but find it entertaining, and I LOVE seeing strong MT performers work, so I want to keep watching and see where it goes.

Btw… I’m liking the Director more all the time. ;-D

Okay, it’s been seven weeks since the last post, and the season finale aired last night. I’m interested to see in CC-land if the views / opinions of this show have changed over time.

Still very soap opera-ish. Some events have been pretty unbelievable and unrealistic. However, I really enjoy the parts of the show that focus on a backstage look at preparing a show for Broadway. I love watching the staged musical numbers (not so much the “dream” sequences); and I love the idea that a group of real MT performers are being featured (and employed!) on this show.
