Hello everyone,

Im a junior in a California private high school right now, and I have taken and passed the CHSPE (and my GED when I turn 18) to graduate early from high school so that I can start work and begin classes at SMC (skipping senior year). I want to go to NYU Stern for my undergrad but I have been told SMC (Santa Monica College) transfers aren't usually accepted by NYU. I'm not 100% sure if that is true, or if there are any ways around that if it is... so thats why I am here.

Is there a way to transfer from SMC to NYU business at all? And does NYU take into big consideration high school grades if 30 transferable credits are earned at a community college (in this case, SMC credits)?

Thanks

My extra curriculars are pretty impressive and my high school GPA is a 3.75. I plan on taking the ACTs during my period at SMC

This statement is false. Don’t believe it. I also saw someone who posted saying SMC credits do not transfer to NYU. Another fabrication. As long as the school is accredited and isn’t a technical/trade school, the majority of your credits will transfer. NYU does not have a system in place similar to the UC’s where you select some options and the system generates courses for you to take. Rule of thumb. If NYU offers the course, the probability is very high that course at SMC will transfer over.

You need to follow the links I have posted below. They contain information such as the prerequisites needed, due dates, transfer process, etc. NYU is private so they do not place priority over NY residents, or any place. Also similar to numerous private schools, your HS record will still hold some weight. If you’re planning to transfer as a sophomore then it will hold more weight than if you planning to as a junior.
If you have over 30 credits, they wave the standardized test requirement.

I do not know to what extent you are familiar with the transferring process but I believe there are crucial aspects to successfully transferring to your desired school. These include: strong GPA, completion of prerequisites, course rigor, well formulated reason(s) for transferring (besides NYU is in NYC, etc there needs to be substance in the reasons), and relevant extra curricular activities.

The transfer rate to Stern is somewhere in the vicinity of 10%. If you’re looking for the average admitted stats, their website does not have any. You can check this post to see the overall range. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/11721479-post385.html
