SMC transfer success story. (Would be great if its a UCB english major transfer!)

Share your success story to UC schools you wanted to get in

Is SMC general courses (freshmen and sophmore year) tough?

Heard that the classes get full right away, but really? that fast?

Not there yet.

Mmm, I’ve been to three community colleges including SMC. I’d put SD Mesa and SMC neck and neck, LBCC was a tiny bit easier.

Yes. That fast. :-(

Will let you know in a month!

I do not think the SMC general courses are tough. I was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA, while working almost full time and commuting from an hour away (until I took a bio class and got a B, ugh). I think a lot of the classes just require minimal effort, but it really depends on what you are taking. I think if you take it seriously, show up to class, and try not to turn things in late, you will be fine.

Classes do get full quickly, however, if you get on the waiting list or stalk the online sign up pages for when people drop, you can get in. I have been at SMC for 6 sessions now (fall, winter, spring, summer, fall, spring) and I was able to get every class I needed finished in that time period, and will be getting my AA in June.

N/A. (I got accepted in CSUs, but not UCs, so I’ve not no success stories to share concerning UCs.)

Still have to finish math at SMC over here.

You have to make sure to be diligent in getting the classes you need.

Overall matrix is at [California Postsecondary Education Commission - Transfer Pathway Charts](http://www.cpec.ca.gov/OnLineData/TransferPathwayChart.asp?Inst=A0001A)

I am still hearing from colleges, but I have so far gotten into UCSC and UCSB I am waiting to hear from UCLA and UCB. I have a 4.0 and I am an English Major from SMC

It depends how much you study/devote your time to it. I was very determined. It depends what classes you take and your professor. Overall I had some very hard and some very easy classes. go onto ratemyprofessor.com and students will tell you about a teacher before you jump into it.

If you are part of the honors system there you get priority in getting classes. That is what I did and I have been able to get all my classes at the right times with no problem at all.

Good luck!

Hey shannpop! Good for you! Hope you also get into UCLA and UCB! 4.0 wow! Well yeah I guess it depends on how much willingness the student has to maintain high grades.

Can you tell me how you got into honor class? Did you start those from the beginning as in fall semester of freshmen year? or did you earn a high gpa in smc and was allowed to apply for honor classes?
