SMC vs PCC vs BCC vs CCSF vs De Anza vs Foothill

Hi! I'm a international student from the Philippines and I'm planning to attend a CC for 2 years before transferring to a university. My goal is to be able to transfer into USC/NYU/BC/UT Austin/UC Berkeley/UCLA. I'm probably going to take up accounting, finance or economics.

Please help me choose which CC I should go to. I heard that budget cuts affected the amount of classes offered in some CCs and I don't want to have a hard time signing up for classes. Does anybody know which CC has the best transfer rate to the schools that I want to get into? What other factors should I consider when it comes to picking a CC? Based on the CCs that I mentioned on the title of the thread, which is the best pick for me? Other CC recommendations are welcome.

Thanks for the help! :)

I want to ask this too. Please help.

Nobody has an opinion on this? :(

i only know of 2 of the CCs you listed.
SMC is probably one of the best, if not the best.
but as you can imagine it will be packed for that reason.

PCC is also a great CC that is often overlooked, beautiful campus.
not as packed as other CCs, so id aim for that one.

things to keep in mind…
what kind of environment you want to live in and the cost.

you can also check out mtsac, but it is very packed with students.

Hi Dainese! Thanks for your reply!

I have two brothers who studied in a CCC and then transferred to USC and they both told me that SMC and PCC are great CCs. However, I have to wait till I’m 18 to be able to enroll in SMC so that means that I still have to wait 6 months after I graduate and I’m not sure if I want to do that. They also told me that if I attend PCC I’d have to take one or two more pre-req Math classes to be able to transfer. Im just waiting for other people to weigh in their opinions and maybe help me with my decision. :)

What is PCC and BCC?

Re: SMC, it looks like they have a fantastic digital arts/entertainment technology division. But would a student looking to transfer to a UC after two years even have time to take many classes outside of general undergrad requirements?

usually transfer students do not take anything they dont have too.

unless you have the time/resources to do so, i wouldnt recommend it. you can always take these other classes for no credit or pass/no pass that way you dont have to stress over them.

PCC = pasadena city college
BCC = berkely city college (which from what i hear, UCB gives priority to BCC students over other CC students)

Hi Dainese!

Are you serious about the BCC thing? I would definitely attend BCC just to have that advantage!

this is a rumor that ive heard, ive had no confirmation from UCB themselves.
but ive heard it from multiple sources. id ask a counselor or UCB about it.

Hi Dainese!

I doubt that UCB would confirm the rumor.
But I would definitely apply to BCC coz I want to stay in SF.

what i suggest you do is email one of UCB or BCC’s counselors.
im sure they will confirm it. the reason being that BCC gets priority is because they are local to UCB so they know that students who are applying from BCC have an intent on going to UCB even if they get accepted to UCLA, USC, etc. the location is where its at.

Thanks for the tip, Dainese! :)

I’m adding Skyline to my list of CCs. Ive read reviews online about how bad everything is in BCC right now except for the architecture of the school campus. LOL

how terrible LOL thanks for the heads up. if you have the time and resources, id def suggest visiting some of these CC’s. esp since you’ll be spending the next 2 years or so there and you will really want to know the area.

EX: USC - great school on the inside, bad area on the outside.

I don’t have the luxury of being able to visit any of the CC’s before I choose which one I’m going attend so I’m really relying on people on the internet to let me know what they think of the schools I’m interested in. :)
