I'm aware that you can join the UCLA TAP program by first joining the Scholar's Program, but what exactly happens?

and for the TAP program for UC Berkeley that seems to be really low key, I know I should go talk to Parungau, but where can I find/contact her? The office hours for the Transfer Counseling is listed only under Spring 2011 on the SMC website.

I'm in my first semester at SMC, and I'm trying to transfer out to UCLA/UCB for a Poli Sci or Communications major or UCSD for a Poli Sci/Communications double major. UCSD has a TAG program which I'm already fully aware about, but I'm really curious about the admission boosters for UCLA and UC Berkeley.

Any help or info will be appreciated :) THANKS!

I’m no expert, but apparently the TAP program for CAL is on an invite-base only. Used the search function and got this:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/664992-uc-berkeley-tap.html

seems to be advantageous for those lucky enough to be invited to join!

I am sure the transfer counselors for SMC are there all the time. Go find them and make an appointment. You need to form a relationship with one of them anyway if you want to transfer. I go see my counselor at my ccc often and they were especially helpful with my TAG to Davis.

How it is at my CCC(ElCo) there is a flier in the counseling office. There is usually a section where they have schedules for transfer workshops, financial aid seminars, and university representative visits. Find that flier and show up to the designated room and just ask. They usually visit a handful of times per month.

It’s not “invite-only,” you just have to find the rep and talk to them about it. They will ask you certain questions(unrepresented minority, family income, and a few more I think) and if she thinks you are eligible you will be given an application to fill out. After that you are in UCB TAP.

For UCLA TAP you have to finish the scholar/honor program but for UCB TAP you don’t even have to be in the scholar/honor program. Also know that the UCLA TAP provides priority registration(not guaranteed like TAG for the other UCs) and the ability to apply to UCLA with an alternate major, but UCB TAP doesn’t provide those. They provide counseling help to UCB and help in the process of writing your application.

Thanks guys! So far, I’ve made an appointment with the UCB transfer counselor. Like you said, she seems to come only a handful of times during the month, which was probably why I couldn’t figure out her hours. I’m going to talk to her about all my questions regarding transferring to UCB. I’m still trying to figure out how to get into UCLA TAP, but I think I’m on track enough as a first semester cc student. I didn’t know that you had the choice to put down an alternate for LA though so that’s really good to hear :D

I’ll dig deeper about UCLA TAP when I get into the scholar’s program. Thanks!

Glad you got it worked out. Definitely ask whatever you want to the counselor, she is awesome.
