Hi I am a prospective student and I think I will choose Tufts as my future university. I want to do a Dual Degree program with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and I was really looking forward to it. However I saw some really bad reviews of the SMFA and was wondering if it is actually true that the staff is inadequate and that it’s not really a great Art School. Has anyone done this program and what was their experience with it?
I think the reviews you are reading are for prior to 2016 when SMFA became part of Tufts. Prior to becoming part of Tufts, it wasn’t able to offer a degree, just certificates. I’ve noticed that searching on SMFA will bring up those old reviews and statistics but now SMFA is a college within Tufts and takes on the statistics and rigor of Tufts University.
My daughter is very interested in the SMFA Tufts Dual Degree program, and I was wondering what have you heard about the quality of the SMFA side vs. other dual degree programs like RISD and MICA etc.
I’d really appreciate any info. you might be able to share!
When Tufts acquired SMFA, it was in debt and not doing so well. After acquiring it, it has grown and become acclaimed nationwide. The SMFA is one of two schools nationwide associated with a major museum.
Even if you’ve heard bad things, you could always tour or look at more recent articles published by the official Tufts websites. The dual degree program seems hard to get into, but it would be worthwhile to investigate!
