SMG Honors Program

I didn’t get in as a freshman applicant. How successful of a freshman year do I have to have in order to be invited next year? Is it a cut-off GPA thing or are other factors considered?

-The Dishonored Coot66

Don't worry, neither did I. It's basically just the gpa, if you get a 3.5 frosh yr, you get invited.

nothing for junior transfers, right?

3.5 .. w/ 32 academic credits ( really easy b/c of SM121/122 is worth 12 itself)...

i actually just got in as an incoming soph... found out two days ago.. 3.56 gpa... its def a challenge to get over a 3.5.. but if you can do well in SMG.. (b/c its weighted more heavily.. you'll def have a shot)...

but you do have to apply for it... and interview... can be a bit of extra work but its not too bad... im not sure how many they accepted as sophomores.. gl though... i absolutely loved smg as a frosh

How does one go about applying for the SMG program? Would I get a letter of some sort (at the end of freshman year) saying I'm eligible or do I contact some special office? And any advice on the interview?

-The Special Coot66

after the first semester.... if you have over a 3.0... you're elligible ot apply.. theres an email sent out and such.. its somewhat annoying to do... 2 recs (usually SMG prof and some other prof) and then 2 page application... then you schedule and interview.... you wait til after freshman year to find out... like 3 weeks after finals... they have to wait til grades come in and select the students they want in the program..

I think it's ridiculous how they make it so difficult for you to get into honors after frosh yr, whereas you don't have to do ANYTHING to get in as an incoming frosh.

its not that hard... you just have to be serious about joining
