SMG vs. CAS

I applied to CAS to major in Psychology, but now I’m having second thoughts.

I’d rather be a business major, but I don’t want to hurt my chances of getting in, because I really, really don’t want to be deferred to CGS. Can I still change my targeted school, or would it be best to wait til I’m accepted and then ask?

And if I do change the school I’m applying to, would I be deferred to CAS before CGS?

Thanks for your help :)

um if you really wanna switch the school you're applying to then you can call admissions and ask them to do that for you. I had to do something similar at one point. the only thing I would point out is that SMG is pretty competitive so if you're not too confident in your application I would just recommend staying with the psych major and just transferring to SMG. You are considered for CGS no matter what college you apply to.

It will NOT help your chances to apply to CAS over SMG. Both schools have the same criteria for admissions. The school does not encourage people to apply to CAS and transfer to another school because they think it will help their chances, it doesn't. Just apply to the school you want. If you've changed your mind, let them know. It's not really a big deal, lots of people do it.

DONT CHANGE IT! Leave it at CAS, wait until your accepted and then switch over to SMG. My roomate did this for engineering and he was able to make the switch with no problems. Sure people will tell you that CAS is the same as SMG but in most cases it's not. SMG is much harder to be accepted into.

Okay, thanks everybody.

I'll probably just wait until I'm accepted (well, hopefully anyways.) My SATs, subject tests, and GPA are relatively high, in the upper median 50%. (1970 & 3.7uw), so I'm really hoping I get in

I'm sorry but SMG is not harder to get into. That is what the admissions office advertises and that is the truth. There are not different requirements.
