Could anyone offer some insight into how often Smith students take advantage of the 5 college consortium?
How often do students take classes at the other schools/how often do students from other schools take classes at smith??
How easy is it to make friends at the other colleges(how intwined is the social life)?
Thanks!
We visited only UMass and Mt Holyoke. According to the students and tour guides we talked to at Mt Holyoke, a fair number of Mt Holyoke students take a course or two at the other colleges but taking a large number of courses is uncommon.
Okay thank you! Could you speak to how often the students of these schools socialize with each other?
For anyone wondering Smith is one of my top choices. I’m a little worried about the idea of a women’s college but if opportunities to meet others (boys lol) isn’t super difficult I’d absolutely love to attend Smith
My Smithie met lots of students from other schools. She and her squad went to events and parties at Amherst, Mt. Holyoke, and Hampshire. She and friends kept threatening to go to frat parties at UMass just to see what that was like, but it never happened due to COVID. She took a grad class at UMass as her capstone in her major. There were definitely hoops to jump through to make this happen, but her advisor was very helpful. Some of her Architecture classes at Smith were 1/3-1/2 students from other schools. She met an Amherst boy in class at Smith and dated him for a while…
It’s probably possible to got to Smith and avoid the other schools. The vibe at Smith leans toward small parties with wine and cheese, vs. big bashes, and many students stick with that most of time. But it does not take a lot of effort to get to know students from around the consortium.
Thanks! Sounds honestly great and good to know that it’s not a problem to get to know those at other schools
