Bad news: I need to write my common app essay.

Good luck!
wow. It’s so surreal.
I know right. I can’t believe we are already applying to colleges. I hope I get into Smith tbh
Hey guys! I’m a member of the class of 2022 (I was admitted in march, committed, and then decided to take a gap year). Hopefully I’ll get to meet some of you someday? If you need someone to proofread your essays, I’m here What is the Smith supplemental this year? Also, good on you for getting it done so early. I think my first round of apps were due Jan 1, so I started my common app essay Dec 27, and I did my Smith supplemental Jan 15 (the day it was due)
We know that colleges ask a lot of hard questions on their applications. This one is not so hard and we promise, there is no hidden agenda-just have fun! If you could star in any movie, what movie would you pick and why? (200 words).
@Fangirl1999
I feel like my Smith essay doesn’t need any work, but my common app essay needs a ton. Would you mind pm’ing me your email so that i can send you my common app essay?
That’s a good one! Ours was along the lines of “tell us about something that made you laugh” and sure thing!
Smith is my top choice, it’s a reach school for me but hopefully things will work out. I visited the campus in June and absolutely loved it. Good luck to everyone!
Whose applying Early? I am and would love to talk to any early decision people!
hey guys i am an international student and smith is my first choice! @carefreegirlll I am 90% sure I’ll be applying ED.
I am really really hoping I get a chance to study in USA (obvs with financial aid haha, yes i know how hard that is ) And omg i havent even started on any of my essays, and I dont think anybody from my school has…
ANYWAYS IF I GET IN,I HOPE TO SEE YOU GUYS!!!
@carefreegirlll @douxrien I’m applying ED, would love to talk to you all!
I just made a Class of 2022 Facebook group, if anyone would like to join! Just search “Smith College Class of 2022” (it’s the one with just two people, the one with like 40 looked sketchy so I just made one lmao)
To clarify, it’s the group with the description that starts with “This group is for accepted students & applicants for Smith College’s Class of 2022. Feel free to introduce yourself, ask questions, post memes- whatever your heart desires!”
This group was made by me, a future student. The other groups on there are run by (what seem to be) adult men or were made several years ago.
Hey guys,
I’m somali muslim American and I’m really interested in Smith. I have a 31 ACT score and a 3.8 GPA. Is it enough to get me a full tuition? Would it be worth it to try to raise my ACT score to a 33, which would be a huge financial burden?
@Hafsa01 according to Smith’s Common Data Set (found here: https://www.smith.edu/about-smith/institutional-research-smith-data), for the class of 2020, the 25th percentile for ACT scores was a 29, and the 75th was a 33, so your score would be about average. It probably wouldn’t help your application much, but your score wouldn’t disqualify your application, and Smith doesn’t care about test scores that much compared to other factors. According the the common data set, this is what they consider:
Very important: Rigor of secondary school record, GPA, essay, recommendations, character/personal qualities
Important: class rank, interview, extracurricular activities, talent/ability
Considered: standardized test scores, first generation, race/ethnicity, alumni relation, volunteer work, work experience
As far as full tuition, Smith has need-aware admissions, but they’re need-blind for most students. Being a person of color or a first generation student will typically protect you from them looking at your financial need, according to Dean of Admissions, Deb Shaver, at Women of Distinction last year. So hopefully that won’t hurt you! Their merit scholarships are extremely extremely competitive, so I wouldn’t count on them, but their need-based financial aid is typically very generous. The Net Price Calculator is very accurate, if anything you may receive more than that!
@Fangirl1999 has great info above for you, @Hafsa01.
Note that even if you did get one of Smith’s merit awards, then the greatest award is only half tuition. Smith doesn’t offer full tuition (except for some very specific awards for local HS grads). Mount Holyoke offers some full tuition merit awards, though, but these are also extremely competitive.
hi guys! im becca and i applied early decision. i guess im just looking for people like me who are anxious about getting into smith, since my scores are slightly below average. do we find out if we got in right in the middle of december or is it scattered?
that is something I wanted to ask too. Does anyone know when early decision applicants hear back? Also if there is a thread for last years ED thread (I can’t seem to find one) does anyone mind linking it?
Hi, everyone! I am an international student, and I applied ED to Smith. I have the same question regarding the date of acceptance decision from Smith for ED applicants.
