Smith College Class of 2021 Regular (RD) Decision Thread

Rejected. I’ve gotten 4 in a row now. Sigh. Does feel terrible given the time and effort that went into it.
I wish I was a better test taker. Messed up my SAT and my ACT because these tests make me so nervous
Anyway, I’m sure the most deserving candidates have got in.
Congratulations to you all!

@mrskite – are you in state or out of state for NCF? I know that out of state gets an automatic scholarship that makes it only slightly more expensive than in-state, which is pretty awesome. I’m in-state from the South FlorIda area. My only two issues with NCF are that 1) while I do love FL, I want a taste of something different for 4 years and 2) it is very, very small (Smith to me feels perfect-sized). NCF and Smith are both gorgeous (in very different ways) and have a definite intellectual vibe, so I agree that they’re pretty similar. Also, if anyone rejected or waitlisted from Smith wants to look into New College FL, given the above, applications are rolling through April 1st.

Hopefully financial aid works out for you (and everyone) at Smith. I will need it if accepted off the waitlist. Waiting on BC’s offer bc my parents had to file an amended return due to recent income loss.

@abundantbananas thank you so much for mentioning where the aid packages are! I was going to wait until they came in the mail, but I’m glad I found it online, now I have more time to plan a visit. My pending package is incredible, way better than any other school’s offer. I didn’t fill out the Smith-specific FA app though, so it might go down.

@edgeook8 I live out of state but I used to live in the New College area as a kid and have a Florida tuition plan, so it would be super affordable for me. But I agree, NCF is super small and I’m a little hesitant about going there because I’ve been in really small schools my whole life so I feel like I should try somewhere a little bigger.

But yes to echo edgeook8 New College of Florida is a great public LAC and if anyone is looking for another school to apply to last minute it’s a really good option!

@hopefulmom123 The only non-safeties I got into were Mount Holyoke, Smith, and Hamilton. (I’m just interpreting the waitlists as rejections because I’m withdrawing my name from the lists for various reasons) Mount Holyoke didn’t offer me as much aid as Smith or Hamilton, and MHC also expects me to take out a federal unsubsidized loan which Smith and Ham do not (imho every little bit counts), so that automatically goes to #3. Smith and Hamilton are REALLY similar on paper (open curriculum, great FA, similar government programs, alumni networks, etc.), but the main differences for me are the fact that one is co-ed and one is a women’s college and how very liberal Smith is and how Hamilton is more moderate (though still liberal). I also did 3 day overnights at both colleges back in the fall (diversity programs), and it was obvious to me which one I clicked with. This also may be a bit silly, but I feel like I get along with the girls in the Smith admitted students group chat exponentially more than I get along with the people in the Hamilton one. Smith’s enigineering program is also appealing, even though I’m not sure if I want to major in engineering at all. Because of my visits and what I know about each school, it’s really obvious to me that Smith is a better “fit”.

@Fangirl1999 What is, and how does one get to, the Smith admitted students group chat?

For the RD admits, did the FA offers have the 2017-2018 costs on them? DD was accepted ED2 and there is nothing listed on her BannerWeb account with regards to FA. They seem to have removed the information, so not sure where we stand.

I have already sent in the deposit, but would like to know what the official FA offer is as the one that came with her admission notice was “Estimated” and had last years costs on it. I noticed costs have gone up 4-5% for next year.

@Nanosour There’s a link to the admitted students Facebook group on the admitted students site. That would probably be the best way to do it, even if you’re just making an account to join it. All of the links to the group chats (there are several) are in there

@Nanosour Try having your D log out of BannerWeb and then log back in. Then look around inside BannerWeb and see if some additional tabs show up that were not there previously. If that doesn’t work, contact the school.

@Fangirl1999 Your info cracked me up. I have twin daughters. One will be going to Smith, one to Hamilton. They wanted similar types of schools, but didn’t want to go together. Interesting that others found these two comparable in many ways.

@Nanosour - you won’t get the final numbers until you get the bill in July. what you got with the acceptance was an estimate (as you noted).

@LadyTremaine I think I met one of your daughters in the Hamilton group chat! Unless there’s another set of twins going to Smith and Hamilton xD

@LadyTremaine @Fangirl1999 Interesting! My D is currently deciding between Smith and Hamilton. Small world!

Thank you !!! Bets of luck to you  hope we both get into smith lol

Anyone going to admitted student days this weekend?

@“Snowball City” My D is spending the night there now. She sat in on a class this afternoon. How about you?

She is a junior. She has been enjoying seeing the prospies on campus.

Did your daughter get over to Pet a Pet Day? My daughter was over the moon with joy - kid goats, chicks, bunnies, and puppies as well as a couple of reptiles.

Aw, no. We had to drive up from NY today and didn’t arrive until mid afternoon. Sounds lovely though! D went to student production of “Into the Woods” tonight. I will catch up with her at Stride breakfast in the morning.

I went to open campus and pet a pet day! I have to say I’m not an animal person though haha
