Yes, my daughter received one today.
may I ask what her stats were and where you are from?
We are in Maryland.
34 ACT
3.9 UW, don’t know weighted and small school doesn’t do class rank
9 APs (every one our school offers)
Three sports, Sec of Student Government, various other things
Good community service
Have no idea about her essays, I stayed out of that!
You just got it in MD today? Was is post marked 2/15?
Yes it was! Crazy, right?
thats soo wonderful … congratulations all!!
It arrived!! (to CA, post marked 2/16).
D is over the moon and plans to attend.
Stats:
GPA 3.96 UW / 4.5 W
IB Diploma Candidate
SAT: 1450 first (only) sitting
decent ECs, lots of women’s-specific volunteering and programs.
I think the essay sealed the deal-- handwritten note on the letter commenting on this.
We are so relieved and happy. She was already rejected ED1 Barnard and ED2 Tufts. Honestly, Smith is a better fit. She just didn’t have a chance to visit! Congrats to everyone as these trickle in and wishing the rest the best of luck for March RD.
Congratulations to her!!! Smith is an amazing school.
Curious about her essay. Can you tell us more?
it was about an alternative lyric song our family made up when the kids were little. It started us all down the path of lyrical amusement and fun-with-puns thereafter (sitting at our dinner table…is an experience). And she ended with some new lyrics about Smith. It was silly but they certainly had not read that one before. Honestly it was a little risky but I guess it worked.
Congrats to her!! Glad it finally came!
We live in MA and ours took 3 days to arrive. Nuts.
i just got an early acceptance letter today! i’m in Maryland, UW 3.91 / WGPA 4.72, 1540 SAT. my essay was about a song that i’ve sung in chorus and i told a story of how i sang it in the car with some of my friends.
i’m so excited!! Smith is one of my top choices. good luck to everyone in march RD
I got my acceptance letter a couple days ago!! It took me completely by surprise. It had a handwritten note from the Dean of Admissions, I cried when I read it LOL
For anyone wondering, these are my stats:
GPA: 4.1 UW / 4.8 W (rank #4)
SAT: 1540
AP Classes:
Human Geography - 5
Chemistry - 5
Physics I - 3
Seminar - 5
Psychology - 4
Lang - 5
This year I am taking AP Research, Physics II, Biology, and Calc BC.
I’m the captain of the Field Hockey and Bowling team, I do track, I am President of our National Honors Society and VP of the Senior Class. I work at a restaurant 15-20 hours a week during the school year and have a handful of volunteer hours. I go to an urban public school in central MA.
Smith is one of my top choices so I am super excited. I’ll have to wait for the rest of my acceptances/rejections (lol) in March/April to make my decision, but Smith is definitely up there!!! Good luck to anyone who is still awaiting their decision!
You are right! My D has also decided to wait and see what comes in later. She is super excited and I think Smith is her top pick, but there’s still some schools with significant merit aid out there that we haven’t heard from yet. Now I just have to convince her to get focused back on high school for just a few more months!
Does anyone have any idea how many of these early admit letters are sent? My D received one yesterday (we are in California Bay Area). Smith is probably tied for #1 for her so she was thrilled to find out. I’m just curious if anyone knows how small or large this “select few” is…?
I don’t know. There’s more posts in the 2020 chain so you could take a look there. Can you share your D stats?
My guess would be that they send the letters to the top 10% of accepted students, so less than 200. I might be wrong though. A lot of the students that are accepted early receive merit awards announced few days before regular decisions.
Congrats to everybody who got good news!
My D also got the early admit letter. She was so excited! Our visit was canceled due to covid, so she’s never been to campus, but she really connected with the student interviewer and feels like the school would be a good fit for her, as do I.
I do wonder if any of the kids will get to visit before they have to accept (fingers crossed!).
