Smith interview?

I received an email about 3 weeks ago regarding Smith alumnae interviews if I am interested in doing one. I replied immediately telling them I am interested. I have not gotten a reply back. Should I email or call Smith College?

Hi there!

I personally love interviews, and think they are a great way to give the school a holistic representation of your candidacy.

I had an interview with a Smith admissions officer earlier in January, and I think it was most likely one of the reasons I got in.

I know that Smith, like all colleges, cannot grant interviews to all of their students, but I believe it would only speak to your determination for you to follow up with them. So reach out to them, there’s no downside!

From my experience, they are fairly responsive both by email and over the phone. I would just recommend if you send an email, send it to your region’s representative, as well as the general admissions email, as I had some issues with incorrect emails being posted on their website.

Feel free to reach out with any more questions, good luck, and I hope to see you there this fall!

Hello! thank you so much for responding! I’ll send an email ASAP
So you were already notified of your acceptance? congrats!!

Yea! I got in Early Decision 2! I’m so happy!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good luck!

What questions did your admissions officer ask?

hope you don’t minding me answering that in some part, as another ED II admit! i did my interview in early November, and like christinassey, i wholeheartedly believe it was deciding factor in my admission.

my interviewer asked about what i was passionate about, like as careers and clubs. i also distinctly remember her specifically asking what i would want smith to know about me that couldn’t be gleaned from my application. if you would like to prepare (because i know i sure wanted to, even though all the advice i received was to be myself), i suggest reflecting on what matters most to you, both in a school and real-life setting. what excites you? what could you talk about for hours?

i do have to say this, however: i don’t know your situation and which applicant classification you fall into, but first-year applicant interviewers need to be scheduled “between April 1 of your junior year and January 15 of your senior year” (straight from smith’s website). transfer applicants do have until mid-may to schedule an on-campus or telephone interview, if that is your category. if you have missed your window, don’t worry! i have still seen students accepted without an interview, it is optional for a reason! i’m sure you will receive the decision that it right for you come march.

good luck!

Requested an interview in November. Reached out numerous times - 6 times to be specific. No interview or an email from an alumna yet. Exceedingly disappointed in Smith admissions team. Unresponsive and condescending when they do respond.

@keithdog was pretty accurate with their description of what the interview is like. The main thing I’d highlight is just be sure you can speak to how Smith is a good fit for you, and how you are a good fit for Smith.

I have to say I’ve had a completely different experience from @sonataB. Smith has been super responsive and accommodating to me this entire process. I scheduled my interview with admissions on the last day of interviews, only about a week before when I went. They have also always been super responsive to all of my interviews.

My recommendation for you would be if you don’t hear back in a day or so, fell free to give them a call!

this helps a ton thank you!!! and it’s weird because i am aware that is what their official website says about interviews… well, i hope to get a reply back soon. if not I will call by the end of this week

@sonataB haha, I called them a few weeks ago asking if they received my app (I thought I applied late due to different time zone) and instead of saying Smith College I said a different uni… hahaha. anyway, that sounds completely terrible. if I was in your situation I wouldn’t want to attend Smith. That is unethical behavior.

I am still awaiting a reply from them. if not i will call the admissions office in a few days. it’s so odd that they decide to contact me for an interview and they don’t respond…

I emailed several times with intervals of either a week or two weeks. This is not for an on-campus interview, but for an alumna interview. Feels like bias unfortunately.

smith admissions is so uncommunicative- for some reason my SAT scores aren’t showing up (they sent to all my other schools ;- and when asking them what i can do (and if i can send the unoffical report) they said “we don’t count sat scores that much” okay but i paid monies for my score to be counted. please.

at this point I’m not even going to try and contact them for an interview. I sent them another email and they have not responded. Did they forget their password to their email account? Or are they just not caring?

And what they said about your test scores… wow. it’s not a completely test-opt school! I think I self-reported my scores but that’s it. i wish SAT/ACT gave refunds…
