I was recently accepted into Smith College's SSEP for summer 2014, and I'd like to have some more information on it...could any past attendees give me any advice or information about the program? (what do you do every day, is there a lot of free time, is it more classes or more research, etc.) There doesn't seem to be much on it here on college confidential or their website...Any advice or information would be much appreciated! :)
Thanks in advance.

If anybody that’s applying to Smith College’s SSEP comes across this thread, I ended up going and LOVING it. I’m here for any questions anyone might have about the process, experience, research, etc.
@cjchasinglife Hi! Sorry for the late reply. SSEP was one of the best experience of my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The professors were so patient eager for us to learn new things. They’re all kind, smart, and qualified professors in their field. I took the Meteorite & Asteroids (Astronomy) and Making Connections (Neuroscience) programs. I had such a good experience in both. The programs allowed me to explore and expand upon my passion for science.
@cjchasinglife It’s definitely possible. Classes/labs ended mid-afternoon, and after that it’s up to you how to spend your time. However, the houses usually have activities every other night and my friends always dragged me out of my room. We went out on the town, went to the gym, enjoyed Smith’s campus, etc. Not to mention all the cool field trips every weekend. It’s hard not to be distracted by the exciting opportunities to have fun and enjoy yourself with friends. If you can stay laser-focused on your studies, then go for it. But if you feel like you’re gonna miss out on the fun if you take the class, I say let it wait.
