Smith v. American?

I hope some of you can convince me and my parents to send me to American…

Ok. I’ve narrowed my choices down to Smith College and American University. Kind of a weird choice I think… I eliminated Boston University and Mount Holyoke College (too stingy).

I’m also still hoping that my waitlists will fall through – Georgetown, University of Chicago, Brown, however unrealistic that is.

I’m pretty passionate about IR and it is important to me that I get into a good grad school. I’m leaning towards American ($18,000 scholarship) over smith ($14,000 grant), but I’m wondering: am I passing a good thing up at smith? I have visited Smith and it seems very supportive and accommodating. I am visiting American University this Friday.

Things that are making this decision difficult

 • Smith is ½ hour away from my home
 • American is in DC and has lots of IR opportunities prob.
 • American might not be as strong as Smith academically
 • American is a university – Smith is a liberal arts college -not sure what I prefer/need
 • to complicate it even further - I was also accepted to the honors program at UMASS and I could take classes at Smith, Mount Holyoke, Amherst, & Hampshire for cheap at UMASS
 • weak i know but, it’s obviously harder to access guys at smith

any thoughts would be very much appreciated. i want this torture to me over…ek

i don't know a lot about smith college, but if you are gonna study IR i think AU would be the right place for u
good luck making the right decision

cool. i applied to bu, smith, au, and mhc as well.

make your decision after friday since you're visiting american this friday.

come friday & then make your decision (btw when your in the LA quad, and you look at the windows and see the greek yellow & blue letters S D T, thats my room!!! hehe srry just excited about my new letters...)

anyway AU has an amazing IR program, and in the end, like it doesn't matter if others believe that a school is "better" what matters is what makes you happy. If AU makes u happy & you can see yourself here, then come to AU. If you think that Smith would make you more happy, go there.

good luck!!!!
