Is there any young woman out there who, in the past few years or so, got accepted at both Smith and Amherst, and if so, which did you choose to attend, why did you choose the one you chose, and are you happy with your choice?

My d., after visiting, didn’t even apply to Amherst, but she was recruited, applied, and was accepted at Williams, with very good financial aid, and happily turned it down for Smith. You can PM me if there’s anything you think I can help with.

Thank you, I will PM you if you don’t mind…

My daughter is friends with a Smithie from Idaho. They met two years ago as prospies at the Smith Open Campus (and earlier on CC). The friend was accepted to both Amherst and Smith, and after she did an overnight at both colleges, she chose Smith, hands down. I believe her comment was that Smith was just so much friendlier.

D didn’t apply to Amherst. Significantly smaller, was a deal breaker for her.

Last fall, my daughter visited Smith, Mount Holyoke and Amherst as a potential transfer student. After the visit, she didn’t even want to apply to Amherst. They weren’t very transfer friendly, and she didn’t get great feelings from the visit. She was accepted at Smith and Mount Holyoke (along with Wellesley, and Occidental), and this year, is loving Smith as a transfer student. She is taking an Amherst class this semester that she likes.
