Smoking Question

Some quick questions about freshmen dorms..
1- Is smoking behind dorms accepted? (I realize its probably not allowed but not sure if anyone would enforce it)
2- For students who are skilled at covering there tracks with smoking, IE towel under door, fan infront of open window, etc, would it be possible to get away with the occasional in dorm-smoking session for those days that its just too cold to smoke outside?
3-Also how safe would a person be with hiding paerphinalia/contraband in their dorm?

I’m guessing you are not talking about cigarettes.

(1) “Behind” as in outside or inside? People are not allowed to smoke in their rooms. You can outside if you are at least 25 feet away from the entrance.
(2) I wouldn’t risk it. Especially if the smoke detector goes off. Be a man! You can brave the cold. It’s all about layers. =P
(3) Paraphernalia? There aren’t random room checks unless someone suspects something is going on or someone reports you. The RU police might come to your room, but that’s usually to test smoke detectors or to see if you have too many things plugged into the outlet that could cause fires. It’s rare though.

1 - There are people who smoke a foot away from the door, so, yes, you could get away with it if you want to be inconsiderate. Just walk 10 feet away and smoke?
2 - The smoke detector doesn’t go off. I’ve had friend who’ve smoked in their rooms, but you can definitely smell it from the hallway, especially in freshmen dorms.
3 - Contraband is very easy to hide. Just don’t have it in plain sight. Every semester, RUPD will make a random visit to your room to tell you that you have too many plugs in your outlet and that you aren’t supposed to use a 10 ft extension cord, but you’ll here them knocking on other doors first. But don’t worry, no one will be actively searching the room.

^ The smoke detector went off in the room for a guy in my dorm who was smoking a cigarette. Don’t know what the consequence was, but if the OP wants to risk it – go right ahead. Do something to cover the smoke detectors and cover the smell.
