My D - incoming Freshman - has been accepted into the SMPA and is a recipient of a Presidential Arts Scholarship (and will be on work-study).

I'm wondering about the work load created by the requirements of those programs.

As a scholarship recipient, she's required to audition (and accept any role) in every mainstage production, as well as have some kind of production role too and be a general support in the theatre department (if I've understood the requirements correctly GW Department of Theatre & Dance).

The SMPA seems to be well known for it's work load and the many course requirements (although it seems that getting to start as a freshman helps a bit?).

D has been a great student in high school - a few AP's in strength areas (English), honors classes, and regular classes (Science/Math). Honor Roll kid - nothing off the charts - but a good student for sure. While doing that she's been in every school theatre production and has been a leader/work-horse in the theatre club.

My point is that she's been doing both - solid academics and a major amount of time in theatre - so she's been successful in the "high school level" of these dual requirements... but college isn't high school.

A little concerned about her being overwhelmed by the work load - on top of learning how to be a college student and learning to live in a city, etc.

Any other SMPA + PSA kids out there? I'd love to hear how you manage it!
