Hilltop, 1490 SAT, 4.0 u/w, 4.2 W, team captain, officer for model congress & service club. Also awarded provost and BBA scholarships. Applied to Hunt
My son got Hilltop: ACT-35, SAT-1560, 12 APs, FBLA leadership positions and national award, other leadership and community service. Also awarded Provost and BBA scholarships and applied to Hunt.
I’m confused about the difference between Hilltop and UHP. They are both listed as Honors Communities, but Hilltop is only for freshmen. It seems that some go on to UHP their second year. Does this mean that his stats weren’t good enough for UHP for now and Hilltop is kind of a probationary Honors community? Or is it just two separate opportunities, one being focused on academics only and one being focused on academics but more on a leadership track? Does anyone know?

It sounds like Hilltoppers could pursue UHP route, (which might be more academically focused) but It seems like the primary focus of HT is to get higher achieving and like minded and motivated freshman connected through classes, leadership and service projects on campus. Good for SMU to promote and connect their future campus leaders and ambassadors early. I suspect many of them applied for Hunt scholarship.
My son got invited for Hilltop and applied for Hunt. Business Direct for Cox.
My son got UHP w 1410 SAT, 32 ACT (33 superscored), 4.0 unweighted, and 4.43 weighted GPA with tons of ECs (Stuco pres, class officer, National honor thespian, etc). Has anyone heard when they contact finalists for Hunt scholarship? I sent the question to the admissions office and they copy/pasted the answer from the website (which is a vague non-answer).
@antiquedealermom If you look at threads from the prior years, it seems as if there is a letter mailed out around the 15th - both acceptances and denials. There is then a follow-up phone call about a week later for those who were accepted to make sure they got the letter. So I would assume letters will be mailed this week - or close.
Fingers crossed. I just want all the waiting and guessing to be over. The kids aren’t the only ones waiting for answers…?
My son was invited to join Hilltop Scholars: 4.0 unweighted, 4.3 weighted, 12 APs, 34 ACT, NMS; Provost and Discovery Scholarships applied for Hunt but haven’t heard any thing yet. I am excited about this program because I feel that my son will have a built in support system immediately and can transition into UHP.
Hilltop ACT 34, 13 AP’s UW 3.8 Weighted 4.98 Many strong extracurriculars. Distinguished scholar accepted into Cox school of Business.
