Hi,
Does anyone know how the undergraduate courses at Singapore Management University (SMU) are?
I wish to apply for the School of Business or the School of Information Systems.
It is a relatively new university, so how well known are its courses??

yeah, I wanna apply to, but I really know nothing about the place.....

it's quite tough to get into, as it is increasingly popular with Singaporean students. you'll need to have competitive grades (straight As) to have a fighting chance.

what about students applying from overseas?

I guess 85+ in CBSE and 2100+ in SAT would be sufficient, of course with Decent Ecs. They also have interviews.

not sure how the application process is like for overseas students though. sorry

SMU is quickly rising in reputation amongst students in Singapore. it is affiliated with the Wharton School of Business, if i'm not wrong, and the undergraduate program, unlike NUS and NTU, follows the American style, which is probably why students find it so appealing. graduates typically enjoy great employment prospects because the school teaches skills that are relevant in the real working world. you may want to check out the website for more details.

having said all that, i'm not an SMU student. just a penny for my thoughts

Hey, I have a question about SMU: the school representative once said that if I got "high SAT score" ( he then said clearly it's 2100+), I would get a scholarship. The point is that I got only 2080 on the SAT I and if I am not awared a scholarship, I won't be able to attend. Does anyone here know someone who got the scholarship with SAT score < 2100? Thanks in advance.

I heard something about the Indian Institutes of Management setting up something in Singapore..

I dunno.

That proposal was rejected by the Indian Ministry.

Oh.. so that's what happened.. Ouch.

coughcough

harry, there's someone on the singaporean community who went to information at smu for a year, and eventually transferred to kenyon. maybe you could ask him

Is there any one from India who has been offered admission by SMU for Bachelor of Accounting degree course? Interested in knowing thresholds for Grade XII CBSE scores and SAT1 scores being considered by them.

That is absolutely rubbish. So many people enter SMU with BBB or worse. My friend scored BBB and is at SMU school of information system!

You don't need 2100 at for SAT at all! I bet 95% of the SMU students cannot score 2100+ for SAT.

Indian Institutes of Management has a better global reputation than SMU.
Indian Institute of Technology has reputation beyond repute.

Aren't there are many people who got into NTU with C's?

Oh ya, they have C. It is AAC, which is a lot better than BBB for SMU ISM.

Let me give you some facts:
For Accountancy: NTU > NUS,SMU
For Business: NTU, NUS > SMU
For Information system: NTU > SMU
For double degree: NUS >>> SMU

I sincerely hope that you don't get fooled by all those advertisements on Singapore's newspapers. For Business, NUS is still the premier business school in Singapore. For professional accountancy, NTU is the one. SMU has little accreditation, extremely dismal performance in league tables, and commonly perceived to be a place for school drop-outs in foreigner's eyes.

hey guys, SMU gave a talk/orientation for my batch when i was still a senior. it's coz we had a coupla girls from the previous graduating batch who enrolled there, and one who actually has a full scholarship there.

anyhoo, SMU requires a SAT score higher than 1900 for our school as i recall. or was it 2000? in any case it had to be high. selectivity is really competetive among international students with SMU. :)

The key thing is SMU is selling itself too well!!!!

It is absolutely a crap school in Singapore, period.

You should go NUS! Don't be fooled by the supposed "prestige"!
