I've recently become very interested in SMU, and now I'm really worried about my chances of getting in. If you could chance me, I'd really appreciate it!

Out-of-State Student

GPA Unweighted: 3.3 (I know, it's low. I have a lot of C's from 7th and 8th grade credits that transferred over, and they just killed my GPA).
GPA Weighted: 3.8
SAT: 1230/1890
ACT: 29

ECs:
Cross Country- 4 Years, Captain
Track- 4 Years, Captain
Latin Club- 3 Years, President (Senior Year), Vice President (Junior Year); placed at State Latin Forum and Regional Latin Forum
Service Club- 4 Years
National English Honor Society- 2 Years
National Social Studies Honor Society- 2 Years

What do y'all think?

SAT is on the bottom end of the median 50%, but the ACT is right in the middle of it. You’ve got some good involvement, and seems like you probably took a fairly tough course load (based on the weighted/unweighted difference) so that’ll all help. Write a strong essay and make sure your recs are glowing and seems like you should be in good shape based on the historical applicant pool

I took a pretty tough course load (total of 13 APs, the rest being honors classes or graduation requirements), so hopefully that will help justify my GPA. I’m not too worried about SMU with that actually, I spoke to an admissions counselor last night and she said that they look into all of that. My main concern is more with the large state schools who might just see me as a number and not look at my course rigor.

Do you think I should even send in my SAT score? Since my ACT is much higher?

They’ll never consider a score that hurts you. May as well send it in!
