I have been really stressing about college lately, and I have always wanted to go to SMU. I am curious how likely they would be to accept me?
I attend a public high school in Texas, where I am a junior. My GPA is a 3.8. I’m ranked in the top 8% of my class, I am taking almost all AP classes and I am gettin A’s in all of them. I am looking to go into the law or business field, and am trying to land an internship at a local law firm. And I may have the opportunity to participate in an “externship” where I will shadow business executives at companies such as HEB, Valero etc.
As of extracurricular activities, I have played club volleyball throughout high school (since 4th grade), and have lettered 2 years on varsity (where I earned 2nd team all district both years). Next year I am going to be involved in an all girls “spirit program” (it’s a little hard to explain). I am in Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society and Student Council. I am on track to earn a “torch award” in BPA, and will probably be an officer next year. I also may run for some leadership positions in NHS. As far as leadership goes, I have participated in a youth leadership program that recognizes young leaders within our community. I also organized a service project where my volleyball team served my community during Christmas. And I orchesrated a bake sale at school to help fund students good no on a trip (I know that’s really not a huge deal). Lastly, I worked on a “prom dress drive” where girls could get a used prom dress if they couldn’t afford it. I’m involved in my church, and have participated in some community projects through the youth program. I also earned the American Legion Award in 2012. For admissions, I have some really good people to write my reccomendation letters as well.
Now on SAT/ACT scores. I have not yet taken the SAT or ACT, but I am taking them in my near future. But on my PSAT, I did awful, scoring a 162. I have been working with a private SAT tutor and really think I can improve my scores, (I honestly don’t know why I did that bad).
I am probably forgetting some other little things, but that is a basic outline. If anyone read through that whole novel, thank you! And if you have any suggestions about what I can do to improve my chances of admission, I would love to hear them. Also, if anyone has any other college reccomendations, please let me know. Thanks again!
