As a mom of one scholarship student and another just accepted, you will not get any more scholarship money unless you apply for Hunt or were invited to Presidential interviews. The rest of the aid given would be through financial aid. Congrats!

@artillygirl: The money you got in your acceptance is what they are willing to give, unless she gets some additional Meadows Scholarship, which would be rare for a freshman. SMU tends to give smaller but more scholarships, spreading the wealth. I think to attract top students who are getting full rides or close at other schools, they are going to have to change this. 15-20k barely makes a dent here.

@Texas I am going to guess it’s because you are a Texas resident. They seem to use these entrance scholarships to attract students from different states. Just a guess, but I’ve seen what my kids and their friends got vs TX kids, and you have to be extremely stellar from TX. Just a guess however.

Thanks Osserpusser. Do we have to apply for a hunt scholarship? I thought we were done with all we can do.
Daughter spent her bday weekend in Austin w friends (letting the reins out a bit since she’ll prob be there in 8 months) at least we have great back up plan. Prob should apply more places though.

@arttillygirl, Hunt Leadership Scholarship is a separate application. [About Hunt Leadership Scholars Program (HLSP) - Hunt Leadership Scholars Program - SMU](Hunt Leadership Scholars Program - SMU (Southern Methodist University))

I know this may be the wrong thread to post in but I have a really important question regarding SMU’s commonapp. The question about the additional info is mandatory to answer, but they ask that our answers convey something not already conveyed in the application. What did you guys put for it since most of you on here already applied?

Thanks so much, my daughter is a on incredible writer and her scores and volunteering are up there so thank you, we will get right on this!

I explained how my grandfather’s death last year impacted my grades. But I didn’t realize that it was a required field.
Hmm okay, let’s say you have mostly A-'s/B+'s but you have a C+ in honors pre calc. If you didn’t have a serious problem (addiction, language barriers, depression, etc.) or something that you cause your grades to go down, then maybe explain how you worked hard in that class and how taking that class paid off even though you didn’t get an ideal grade. Hope this helps!

I was sad also that my daughter didn’t receive any merit money, (especially when people on here were complaining about not getting enough merit money). Her stats are similar to yours. There was one other poster in the same range, too, with no scholarship (also IB). I emailed her ad rep and she explained they look at the entire pool and award money.
Then, people started posting that they were deferred or turned down, and my sadness became grateful that she was even accepted!!
It seems the merit money went to people with ACT above 30. There is an IB scholarship, but it’s not awarded until July. I thought that was the issue because the other poster was IB, but I see you are AP. I wonder if maybe a better recommendation would help, so I told daughter to get another one to send in. It can’t hurt…
SMU is her top choice so we haven’t given up hope yet, but now at least daughter is considering other options.
I hope you both can find a way to get there.

My son recieved merit money and acceptance into Cox BBA. If it helps people handicap merit scholarships his stats were a 4.2 GPA and 33 ACT.

Got an email from SMU “Application Completed” on 12/20 that said “You can expect an admission decision by mail by the end of December.” No EA - didn’t submit application until late November/Early December - just wondering if anyone else got this email and what it means?

I was accepted to SMU with the Second Century Scholarship ($20,000 a year, so $80,000 total). On Christmas day I received a letter saying I was accepted to Cox school of business, and was given early acceptance to the honors program. My school does not do GPA or class rank, but I had a 32 on my ACT and my grades were medium/high for my school. That being said, I go to one of the best boarding schools in the nation so it is extremely hard to be the top student. Did anyone else get the early acceptance to business honors?

Hello future Mustangs!

Congratulations on those who have been accepted you are going to LOVE SMU!! I am currently a freshman and if you have any questions just let me know!

Hope to see you all during Fall '13!

Congratulations to all of those who recieved their acceptance in recent weeks. We’re excited to welcome you into the SMU family!

Sorry I’m a little bit late to be posting this, just discovered this thread! I applied to SMU as a Viola Performance major (Meadows School of the Arts) and have been accepted to both SMU overall and Meadows. I received a $20,000/year (Second Century) scholarship with my initial acceptance to SMU, and about a week after that I received a letter saying I have been invited to interview for the Presidential Scholarship. Thought I’d post some of my stats:
ACT: 33
Class Rank: 17/483
GPA: ~3.9 unweighted

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted!

Omg ekviola you got the PS invite??? It was sent already? I’m crushed I did not get one :((( did anyone else get the PS invite?

@conniebear

I feel your pain. I have good grades, good ACT, very diverse application, tons of ECs, tons of volunteer, all IB classes… Didnt get a single dime.

If you’re looking for additional money, be sure and keep independent scholarhips in mind. Ask your high school counselor if he knows of any local scholarhips or ask around at local businesses/community groups - oftentimes they are willing to provide some financial support to college bound kids. Visit websites like [Fastweb : Scholarships, Financial Aid, Student Loans and Colleges](http://www.fastweb.com) for some more scholarship opportunities as well. Don’t give up! The money is out there.

Did any IB student get a merit scholarship?
Maybe since they automatically give $ based on IB Diploma score, they wait for the scores.
Unfortunately decisions must be made before July…

Im getting an IB Diploma and i didnt get any money.
