Same for my son.
The PS deadline to submit answers was yesterday. Not sure if theyâll send out more invites. My son got an invite.
Yeah, I got my UHP invite as well.
Congrats on UHP! She was EA and accepted into engineering as a Provost Scholar. She received the PS invite the week of Christmas.
That makes sense. I think they will send out more invites because on their website (unless it has changed), anyone who applies by January 15th is considered. But I was accepted EA so it wouldnât make any sense for me to be in a later batch because they would have already sent it to me with other EA admits. Iâm so confused though on how I got into UHP though haha because I didnât get PS. Obviously PS is selective, so the invites will be selective as well, but according to the SMU website they invite up to 185 people to join UHP. I know for Cox BBA that whatever the number of slots was they already sent the invites for (so if you apply RD you canât get it). I am wondering though how many invites they sent out for PS, not that we would know though.
We are wondering the same thing. I have no idea how many are invited to fill out the PS application.
My daughter also received her UHP acceptance tonight!
My son also received his UHP invite today. He was admitted to Cox BBA Scholars and also invited to apply for PS before Christmas.
Daughter with Distinguished Merit received UHP today. Did not receive any PS invites, though. Hope it wasnât purely because of test-optional (no seats available in our areaâŠlike ever).
Website (in diff places) says UHP is 150-185 people each year (another place says roughly the top 10% of admitted students). Given that UHP likely includes some folks from RD, long after PS and Hunt are done, it seems curious that someone could get Distinguished Merit but not even be in the initial PS reviewâŠhmmm. (If they ultimately invite 60 finalists, after having screened some outâŠand some of the 150ish UHP arenât named until RDâŠit would seem like either 1) most UHP invitees from EA would get the PS invite or 2) the criteria for PS are somehow different than for UHP and donât overlap cleanly somehow.
Itâs also interesting that at least some Distinguished Merits got PS invite per posts aboveâŠsuggesting a reasonable upper bound on Provost levels (assuming PS invites are correlated to the same factors that drove the Distinguished Merit/Provost) at a relatively modest level of, say, maybe 50?
Still hoping for Dedman and similar merit as the school-specific decisions are rolled out.
You couldnât have said it any betterâŠexactly what I was wondering. I received distinguished and got the hunt email, was accepted into UHP, but did not get the PS invite.
It would make sense that all PS invited students are UHP, but given the nature of how many are invited to UHP, it doesnât seem like that many students? Makes me question how many are getting the PS invite. I feel like it canât be that small of an amount because then people filling out the essays would have a 40-50% chance of being a finalist for PS. I doubt itâs that high, although maybe it is.
Bit disappointing though as I donât know where I went wrong. I donât get how they decide what distinguished scholarship recipients to send the invites to. I saw some didnât get the invite to apply for Hunt (anyone can apply to it but the director emailed some people saying their AO referred them to her) but got the PS invite. So strange.
The only possibility (this is extremely slim imo) is if they send out additional PS invites to students who are going to be accepted RD (people who apply by January 15 can still be considered for PS) who are accepted into UHP. Iâm assuming they do a quick filtering process and find some students with high stats, review them for acceptance/PS/scholarships/UHP. Maybe they send PS invites to all the people in UHP then who didnât already get an invite for PS, and are essentially waiting for that pool to be complete. Again though, probably unlikely. If we were admitted EA and didnât get an invite with the rest of the EA admits then itâs probably not going to happen.
Just my take, might be flawed.
My son got distinguished and got the PS invite. He did not get a Hunt invite.
My daughter got UHP and Distinguished, but neither Hunt nor PS invites. ~4.5W and national level athlete in a program where SMU is very competitive too. Just no test scores possible.
She will apply for Hunt, but her leadership profile isnât typical of most HS candidates. PS wouldâve been the more likely fit, I suspectâŠbut as Slytherin says, that seems highly unlikely at this point.
Sounds like she was a little under the bar on essays somehow and/or the lack of testing options here was a barrier for some of the higher level merits.
Do they send both ps and hunt invites to the same student ?
Yes. Just five minutes ago, my son received an invite for the hunt. So I guess they are still sending out invitations for things.
I just received that too, but itâs a different email than the Hunt one I got before. The other one was from the director of Hunt. Not that it matters though, anyone can apply!
Did everyone get the Hunt email today?
No Hunt email in our house but we got a physical letter from Dr. Turner (el jefe) about the 500-mile contract. Thatâs the pledge he made to his daughter that he would treat her like sheâs 500 miles away at college instead of in the neighborhood.
Daughter applied EA, accepted business direct, Distinguished Scholar, PS invite as well as UHP. Applied test optional. Wasnât offered BBA Scholar which I thought was oddâŠ
Same here re: 500 mile letter. But no other scholarship info at all. Super disappointing. Itâs one of my kidâs top choices but full tuition is just too much. And he wonât qualify for financial aid.
500 mile letter? Is that for locals? If anything, my kid wants to stay as close to home as possible! As Texans, getting him to apply out of state has been difficult. I think Covid has tightened our family network a bit. Or maybe he just likes my cooking?
Yes, itâs for DFW area students. Our son wants to be as far away as possible, and we treat our daughter like sheâs â500 miles away.â She lives in the dorms and doesnât come home on weekends. Sheâs on campus today for rush prep.
