SMU Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

My son was accepted and awaiting Cox decision- no mention of scholarship/merit though - will that come later? It’s his # 1!!

Yes, it’s the top university wide award. College ones may be available and stack. The big two are quite competitive and very prestigious.

Accepted with SMU Distinguished Scholarship…kinda bummed because I want to be considered for the President’s scholarship and I probably don’t have good chances if I couldn’t receive Provost (30k a year rather than 25k!)

Driving me nuts that I had a typo, can’t see how to edit my post. Will HEAR, not here from Cox in a week, lol.

Great, thank you for the information. She loves SMU, but with med school in her future after an engineering undergrad, she’s hopeful for scholarships to help now as much as possible. She’s also NMSF.

My son got in with distinguished scholar. He’s also an IB student, so I think that adds another 7500 per year. Now we wait on UT.

That’s cool.

No mention about current funds on ours, just hear from Cox next week.

Does anyone know if the Provost/Distinguished/Second Century scholarship awards were based mainly on academic stats, or was everything considered holistically? I only had a 1460 SAT and not a ton of APs (my school doesn’t offer many), and I received Distinguished (25k a year). I didn’t have a 1550 or anything like that so I guess I’m pretty lucky because it seems like people with those stats received Provost.

Just curious though because I really wanted to be considered for the President’s scholarship and have very strong extracurriculars. I’m going to apply for Hunt too, as it seems more lenient in terms of scores.

Totally understand. I hope the money works out.

I was NMSF and was engineering pre-med. I hope she stays the course…unlike me.

I suggest to stay the course and see how it works out. Based on what I’ve seen, Hunt committee in particular really evaluates leadership experience and potential.

Are Distinguished Scholarships all $100k (25k/year)? My daughter got that but wording has me a little confused whether it’s actually $100k or up to $100k.

25k yearly, 100k total value!

I was initially confused too. But I think it is $25,000 annually up to $100,000 (could be less than $100K if you graduate early and won’t be more than $100K if you take more than 4 years to graduate).

If we sent in a resume should it have shown up on our portal? I didn’t submit mine when applying but emailed it to admissions, and it never showed up on my portal. I’m guessing there’s nothing I can do now because I’ve already been admitted, but I wish I could be sure that they were able to look at it. I went so much more in depth and was able to portray everything in a deeper light. Oh well!

Congrats to everyone! My son got in but no mention of scholarships. Does that mean he’s not considered for any scholarship money? Are the scholarships indicated in the letter or somewhere else in the portal?

I have the same question

I think the SMU scholarships come in the letter. But the colleges (e.g. Meadows, Cox, etc.) give out scholarships too and those come later.

yes, I got one and it was indicated in my letter

Accepted as SMU second century scholar scholarship!!

When you received your acceptance letters, do they mention admission into your specific major school or is that just for Cox Business ?
