SMU ED Class of 2025

From my admissions advisor

Let me find out more about the Spring Entry financial aid timeline from our Spring Entry team! I will get back to you next week with more information.

Oh I remember now you told me about this before. Good luck.

My son got his acceptance letter and merit award, but the letter stated something about notifying him regard Cox. He applied for engineering, business was his second choice. Does this mean he didn’t get into the engineering program or is it just a form letter?

Sounds like your assumption is possible.

I believe they’re just evaluating you for both. Cox and majors with auditions/portfolios are by invitation. All others are open for initial entry and transfer.

With D19 she applied and was accepted to Lyle/Engineering (and loves it) At the Lyle events we attended on campus they made it clear there is very little opportunity to transfer in if not offered a spot up front (direct admit). Last year, they began the same/direct admit into Cox/Business (rather than applying after 1st year). I am sure it would be just as difficult as Lyle to transfer in or gain access to Cox now. Have your son gain clarity from his AO.

Did any Sprng 2022 admits get aid/scholarship information?

I haven’t yet.

No. I think scholarship info would have been on the acceptance letter.

I think merit-base scholarship included in the letter. As for the need-base scholarships, maybe next week?

Yes, thanks for clarifying. I meant merit scholarships should have been on the acceptance letter :slightly_smiling_face: Need-based aid, along with loan info, should be included when the financial aid package is released.

Going to start a SMU 2022 Spring admit conversation.

Yes, my son applied EA and was admitted to SMU, but deferred from Cox. We are still anxiously waiting for an announcement. Have you heard yet?

Waiting as well!! Fingers crossed!

For Spring 2022 who might have the same questions I did- I spoke with an admissions counselor today over zoom. Seems that if merit aid was not in the letter only need-based aid will be in FA package. I also asked about the difference between being waitlisted or a spring admit. It seems that it really depends on what they need to make the class once they want it. If taken from spring to fall, would not be notified until May 1. If anyone applied to Cox, I got the impression that it is unlikely to be direct admit given the number of applications (but this could change from case to case and my impressions may be incorrect). I am personally concerned about not getting the fall freshman experience and being new with everyone else so asked for rough numbers. For international programs, it is around 20-30 per cohort from what I was told and I believe that is mixed with all grades. The interest form is not binding, but I am under the impression it might be difficult to switch from domestic to international, but everything is relative. Hope someone finds this helpful in some capacity-i might have jumbled some information listed above but for the most part that is what I got out of my convo with my AC.

This was useful information. Thanks for posting!

I bet after April 6th, many people will make a final decision (committed to one college) and withdraw all the rest admissions. WL will be converted soon as well.

So she said merit aid would have been in our letter online letting us know of Spring 22 admission that we got on the 18th, last Thursday? Or does a letter come in the mail? Obviously we would need to know net cost per semester before sending deposit by May 1st.

Just received an update, waitlisted for COX business school.

My son got waitlisted for Cox business school too. Bummer.
