move onto another major in another school. Surprisingly “computer science” is listed as an option.
stick to COX and wait for an room. What will happen if there is still no room in COX after May 1?
Below is from the letter,
"Below are some of the business related majors at SMU:
Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences:
Economics
Earth Sciences
Markets and Culture
Political Science
Public Policy Lyle School of Engineering:
EMIS – Management Science
Computer Science
Cyber Security Specialization
Entrepreneurship Specialization
Meadows School of the Arts:
Corporate Communication and Public Affairs
Journalism
Advertising
Creative Computing
Public Relations and Strategic Communication
Simmons School of Education and Human Development:
Applied Physiology & Sport Management
Sport Management
Sport Performance Leadership
Applied Physiology & Health Management"
Seem to be the most popular choices for people. A lot of great options. Computer Science is very marketable but rigorous.
If your kid is tech or systems savvy and outgoing with a business bent, I know recent EMIS grads that got jobs in consulting and corporate systems analysts. One had a year long PT investment analyst internship at a buy side investment firm.
With so many top students applying to more colleges this year, it seems like Cox is hedging with a wait list in case its yield is lower than last year.
Does anyone know whether all RD decisions (whether than be admit, waitlist, or denied) have been made? In other words, everyone who applied RD should have heard something by now, correct? Website just says “mid-March”, and i know there appears to have been a wave of notifications to other candidates (deferred EA/ED rounds). Just curious…
I have read many posts regarding how hard to get in CS major in many other colleges and state universities, which left me a belief that CS is very hard to get in. Many applicants got in to Honors college/program but not in CS.
Below is the follow up after we said “Yes” to be waitlisted.
"Thank you for accepting your spot on the Cox waitlist!
As a reminder, we will continue to review the Cox waitlist through the spring and will be sending decision notifications to applicants if spots become available. While we hope to have all Cox waitlist decisions made by May 1st, it is likely that some decisions will not be made until later in the summer. If we have not made a decision on your application by May 1st, we will contact you to see if you would like to remain on the Cox waitlist."
Another email came in today, welcome/inviting my D to join Honors Program. This email says after completing 7 Honors courses, Word HONORS will be printed on the diploma.
Hey does anyone know when the financial aid package will come out for Spring Admits? I just received an email from the admissions office and they told me that it wouldn’t come out till November… I sent him another email questioning this and haven’t heard back yet. Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything about financial aid for spring admits…
When did they change Lyle from direct admit ? My D was indeed admitted directly in 2018 … It would have been a game changer for her if that was not the case plus she was the recipient of several merit scholarships tied to the Engineering School.
I don’t fully understand it. We first received the admit to SMU, then later the admit to Lyle, with a scholarship. I called during the interim and was told the direct admit programs were COX and the arts. Lyle is not considered direct admit. I’m assuming that means student can transfer in.
I think my counselor said mid April for Spring admit financial info… they would have to let us know before May 1st deposit deadline so we know if we can afford it.
I’m really not sure what you are speaking of. Like I said, Lyle was/is indeed direct admit for our D who is finishing her Junior year. Now knowing the rapid progression in that curriculum, you hit the ground running right from your 1st semester - no one (maybe a few) really transfers in. It just does not work that way with the rigor of the program. Maybe you mean they can declare their major within the Engineering school later … anyway, good luck !
