SMU Hunt Scholarship 2015

Hey guys I haven’t seen this up yet, but I thought it would be a good idea for those who applied to SMU Hunt Scholarship to converse and this being College Confidential, probably share some stats?

Hey, I applied for the Hunt Scholarship too! I’ve been secretly hoping someone would start a discussion board for this! I I was admitted EA to SMU and also invited to be a BBA Scholar and join the Honors Program. I guess some simple stats about me are academic-wise I have a 4.47 weighted GPA, 31 ACT (should probably be higher, but oh well), and an IB Full Diploma student.
A few non-academic things I’m involved in:
National Honor Society
President/Founder of an on campus club that works to provide school supplies for children in underdeveloped nations Model United Nations delegate/Leadership Board/Under Secretary General of the program
Vice President - National Charity League
Link Crew Leader
Student Ambassador

I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things, but that’s the gist of my stats! Good luck to everyone!

P.S. does anyone know when we should expect to hear back if we are a finalist or not?

@ThePhilosopherTV and @ibther4iam‌ My son is a current Hunt Scholar and I will be happy to try to answer questions about the the program or the interview weekend.

@ibther4iam‌ , you should get a letter either way in mid February and the interview weekend is normally in March.

Good luck to both of you. It is an amazing scholarship!

@DoResearch If you actually receive the Hunt Scholarship, can you combine that money with the scholarships from the school (Second Century and BBA $ in specific) to receive free tuition? Or is the school scholarship taken away and you still have to pay the “in-state” amount?

@UNCtarheel14 You can stack department scholarships like BBA, or Lyle, but not university scholarships like Second Century, Hilltop, etc. You can also use outside scholarship money to off set any remaining balance.

I hope that helps.

@DoResearch That makes sense… Thanks! P.S. I’m actually attending SMU my @ name was really old lol

@doresearch, Thanks for the info! I was wondering about that.

They have begun watching the YouTube videos. I put my video as unlisted and every now and then I have looked at the analytics to see if it has been viewed in Texas, which it was on February 4. Good luck to everyone!

@doresearch‌, do you by chance recall when your son heard if he was a finalist? I assume around Mid-February?

@Classj I know the exact date. We received the letter Saturday, February 15, 2014 and it was dated 02-14-2014. We live in the DFW metroplex.

Here is a link to last years thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/southern-methodist-university/1607148-hunt-leadership-scholars-program-p1.html

Last year, the finalist invitation letters were mailed in large white envelopes. The “sorry” letters were standard size. Finalist’s also received a personal phone call about a week later to ensure the letter was received.

Best of luck!

Letters should be going in the mail soon!!! Please post an update when your letter arrives.

Best of luck to everyone!!!

Should I be worried about the fact that only one person has viewed my Hunt Scholarship video?

@ThePhilosopherTV I would not be too worried. The one view could have been SMU viewing the video and downloading to a disk for distribution to the committee.

This is the first year for the youtube video, so unfortunately I don’t have any experience with the process.

Best of luck!

I saw that my video was viewed twice in Texas and once in Oklahoma. I guess someone who lives in Oklahoma is on the selection committee.

Also, based off of last year’s thread where I saw that the finalist letters were dated Friday, February 14, 2014, I am guessing that the letters should be mailed out either today or early next week!

The website did say they will give out finalist letters a month prior to interview week. Which would be February 19-20th.

I just checked the analytics on my video and I had 2 views from arizona, 8 from alaska, 3 from new york, and 3 from florida which I thought was odd. I guess the selection committee is scattered around the country.

@Co2015fl Is your video unlisted?

Does anyone know whether or not letters were sent Friday, 2/14 or Saturday, 2/15?

@Co2015fl and FLStudent97, those views might not be as random as you think. I know that I watched quite a few of the entries before I made my video in order to get ideas on what to say. So the board may not be all over the place

@co2015stu I watched a lot of the videos as well, but I made my video unlisted on YouTube so that no one is able to view it except for those who have the link. I wanted to keep track of when and where the video was viewed, specifically in Texas by the selection committee, after I submitted it.
